Yos, all! I'm new here... and I do suck at this game.
I died so many times in ST that I felt as though I was playing Nethack.
Anyway, I was just wondering why there wasn't an "Invest" option in Exchanges.
Y'know, with enough investments, you could literally buy the entire world and claim it for your faction with cold hard cred-chips.
Which reminds me... I think "Uncharted Waters 2" have something similar to that.
Also, will there be any chance to actually commandeer an entire fleet of chips? And take over a planet by force? Eh? Eh? ;D

Unfortunately the saved game format makes several large compromises for the sake of efficiency, so actually changing the ownership of a Faction World is unfortunately, impossible.
This is a fairly common request and we have factored that into the plans for ST RPG 2.
The Captain can control up to 20 ships in Elite edition.

I have the Elite edition and have enough creds to purchase that many ships but for some reason, I could not get it. I will fire it up to see it... after I complete Cyber Knights!
Also, is there some terraforming, harvesting or industrialising missions coming up for Wild planets anytime soon or would that also be in ST: RPG 2? Can I start pre-ordering now? ;D

Hi Blackgauntlet,
You can own up to 21 ships in Elite, but technically you can only control one at a time (20 in dry docks, one you command). So you won't have any options available to command a fleet of ships - or even tow a captured ship during combat.
The current game engine isn't geared up to support controlling multiple ships simultaneously.
Having the ability to "cultivate" planets is a very good enhancement request for ST RPG 2. Hopefully Cory's captured it, either from here, or from previous threads.
Note also that in the current game, Cory has been working on developing player bases. It's a more robust form of caching where you are able to stash ships and the like. It will be interesting to see how Cory has resolved the stashing a ship at the base ... or get back to civilization once you have stashed a ship given the "only control a single ship" aspect.

The basic system for player bases is as follows:
- Player Purchases "Constructor" Ship - Player Lands Constructor on Wild Zone - Use Special Officer to "Establish" Constructor (Officer + Ship are Consumed) - Base is Created [Does not replace Stash] - Base Contains Ships (Defender, Shuttle or Freighter, etc) - Captain Adds Resources + Officers + Crew - Base Upgraded By Landing Another Constructor + Officer Combination - Bases Destroyed By Aliens, Conflicts, Rumors, Crew Loss, Aliens, Aliens and more Aliens

Woohoo ... who consumes the special officer? Is he roasted up like a banquet offering - or is it more like cold-cut sandwiches for the construction workers to munch on while they are putting up the framework.

I'm thinking more in terms of "fertilizer". Muahaha! By the way, how do we actually classify "Aliens" anyway? I have officers who sport some out-of-this-world skin pigmentation. If I'm not wrong, Aliens are visitors/invaders/scouts/criminals/scientists from areas out of the known galaxy (beyond the map) while everyone in it are considered civilized and recognized planetary beings... even if they fart fire and piss radioactive waste. @cory: To what extent would the planetary cultivation go? Storage? Trading post? Supply depot? Dock? Fortress? City? Palace? If this scope goes further, you may need to rename this to GE: STG (Galactic Empire: Strategic Tactical Game). I'd gladly pay for it anyhows. ;D

Storage! Supply depot! Dock! Fortress! Research Center and Ship Repair Site.
Beyond that into the empire building stuff we need a whole different game engine, one that simulates everything not just stuff close enough to the player to be specific.

@cory - Understood. Tried game-mastering a whole galactic battle with my players as star commanders between Jedis, Siths and Yuuzhan Vongs using the Star Wars d20 system. Didn't work either. ;D

That is undeniably the best analogy for the issue possible.
You wouldn't try to run a game called "Faction Wars" using the pen and paper game of "Space Heroes" you'd have to get a different rule book and new figurines / maps.
Trust in the GM =)

With your skills in programming, I do not doubt for a second that you'll find a way to create a cross genre system in the near future. ;D
