I think Xenos should favor attacking Templars over TP when Templar is within a 5 tiles of TP. Xeno in this screenshot attacked TP 2 tiles away instead of Templar right next to him.

SOMETIMES ... they do two attacks in their round - one hit on the TP, AND one hit against the knight. Man it sucks when they do that sometimes

I agree about templar vs tp aggro. It would make defensively built teams (paladin and berserk) much more effective. Right now they are strongest when blocking passages that are 1 tile wide, but otherwise the xenos just bypass them and make a beeline for the tp. I'm not sure if xenos should automatically attack templars over tp, but I think they should be somewhat more balanced in their tagetting.

Here's a screenshot of a Xeno cruising past 3 Templars straight into a TP attack. I drew in a red line of the Xeno path for the turn. Can this be reworked so the Xenos prefer to attack the closes Templar?

The AI is making balanced strategic choices to attempt to eliminate your team in the fewest turns possible.
I'm afraid this thread risks oversimplifying a complex issue, but I hear the feedback, in general as: "The AI is a bit too effective on my difficulty level and keeps taking out my TP."
As we work through the final phases of the Alpha, we'll absolutely being doing work to allocate the AI's intelligence routines across the difficulty levels.

So what your saying is, that the Xenos have a turn count goal they're trying to beat?

What we're saying is we tried to make them smart

I actually like that the xenos like to target TPs, but I think we just need another tool to help prevent that from happening. The most important tool we have for this at the moment is overwatch, because it attacks the xenos as they try to sneak past.
I think one of the melee classes, preferably the berserker, should have a melee version of overwatch that is only cast-able on the tiles immediately surrounding them. This would make melee much more effective at TP defense. Although they would probably have to be nerfed elsewhere to compensate.

And it auto-targets! Even easier to use than OW. And it lasts multiple turns!

The difference between an overwatch style talent and countering is huge. Countering only works if the xeno attacks the Templar. Most of the time, I find they attack the TP first.
I guess I'm asking for something preventative instead of reactive.

I think once the TP defense upgrades are working right, we'll see a lot better options for us. Sentry Guns are great right now for that, but you only get 2 per Engineer. A two Engineer squad, depending on the levels layout, can drop a Sentry in every corner of a TP and make it almost untouchable by the Xeno.

If you are talking about indomitable defense, I have tested it up to level 3 and haven't had it do anything preventative yet. Maybe it's just bad rolls on my part though. Maybe my device hates berserkers, because I updated to stock 5.1.1 and their slash talent still freezes my game.

That's true ntsheep. The defenses should help considerably.
