It annoys me to no end that I seem to be the only one having this problem. I dropped out from the alpha test after a few weeks because even on easy I just couldn't get anywhere with it even after skipping the tutorial and leveling the he'll out of everything. I decided to wait and try again after the main release to see if it was just a but with the alpha.
But alas- once again on easy and with relic equipment, within just two rounds of holding that first tact point on tutorial 2 mission my captain was down to 10 percent health. The second attempt at it too. I don't think I'm a moron or something like that. Not enough time passes to screw something up. I'm just losing massive amounts oh health to 2 or three skitterings. And I'm noticing that this is just the captain that it's happening to. I finally won that level by blocking with the friggin engineer. (The captain will never live THAT one down lmao.

Thank you very much for the Review. Hopefully we can get things going and figure out where the stumbling blocks are.
Maybe there are updates we can do to help.

Wait until you get those level 3-5 missions with that damn Templar Berserker on your team. He failed me that alien boarding mission at least three times until I finally cracked the code. The secret to this game is simply this: Explore a few steps at a time, pull back when you see an enemy so you know where he/she/...it? is while not being immediately in range. This is extremely important early on when you have to healing gear or medics. Basically, it goes like this: Move Dalan Ortho maybe two or three squares at a time into a darkened area. See that Xeno? Good. Now turn around and walk back to your team like you didn't see him and set Overwatch. Shuffle your team up carefully so you can stay out of the 6MP range of the Skitterlings, or 5MP for the bladed freaks. Wait. Then open fire at a distance FIRST to weaken-- this is extremely important because Xenos love melee counterattacks, and have no issues eating half your Captain's health in an unlucky melee roll. With some ranged fire first, the Captain or Berserker can simply step in for clean up duty while your ranged units can soften other targets, reposition or step forward. Think of it more like a Roman army formation-- you step up with your shieldsmen in front, but its the people behind them with throwing pilums (PILUMS autocorrect, not plums!!) that strike first into an attacking force, not the melee fighters.

There are a huge pile of Let's Play videos on YouTube that show successful runs of the tutorial levels on all difficulties. Can you check those out and see if they are helpful?

dayan, I found a History Channel video of actors portraying Boudicca's last stand against Roman soldiers as a guide. During the last 2 minutes or so, you can see how the Roman soldiers are throwing their pilums to destroy or severely cripple enemy shields (in our case, that would be Xeno armor) before stepping in to finish the warriors in hand-to-hand combat. Mildly graphic, but its an reenactment of Roman History as done by actors, so own discretion advised, I guess. Pretty short clip. youtu.be/__Mn2VSEBFo

I have recorded a video where I talk for 15 minute about some good Templar strategies - moving slowly, falling back when necessary, targeting high value enemies, focused fire, and using OW to prevent any enemy from closing. In Templars, you will lose if you allow the enemy to reach you. So, you've got to set that as a core strategy and stick to it, and build the rest of your actions around it. The really important moments in the video are when I reach the bridge and a few turns later in the level -- with 3 or 4 xeno coming in, I need to make some hard choices on who / how to survive. I hope the video helps! Please keep sharing your experience with us, I am sure we can help you get into the game youtu.be/A5HUpktVHqA

dayan How are you building your captain. Exact stats and talents, what gear? Also try to keep his buff commander's confidence up at all times. It only costs 1 ap and can be cast while overheated. It's central to my ironman builds
