1. Just finished a mission 2. Left planet to get healing/supplies from elsewhere 3. While flying through empty space, I get a Toast notification that a crew member has died from an accident. Disappeared before I could screenshot.
No rumors in the Zone that I am aware of. Nothing showed up in the bottom-right Log Window when the death happened, and no failed skill checks before or after the death. Captain's Log just said the crew died from an accident.
What caused this? I assume even if I don't know about a rumor, if the ship/crew are hit by radiation or meteor storms, I would see a Log Entry, right?

The Crew member suffered damage following a failed dice test. That Crew member's HP dropped below zero, and was killed.

Shouldn't there have been a log entry then?

Confirmed that all deaths are logged to the Captain's log no matter why or how they occur.

Thanks for checking, Cory. Weird that nothing showed up on the bottom-right log window though.
I know Alpha UI and such, but it would be great if the Captain's Log death entry had a bit more detail. Especially since ST2 is meant to let players have a tighter bond to individual Crew members, the current description is very cold.
Maybe something like [Job] [Name] has died in an accident due to a failed [Skill] operation while in [quadrant]. His/Her body was...
...actually, what do people do with corpses in ST2? Send into the void? Burn it up in atmosphere? Crew→W-F Converter?

Star Traders traditionally fire the bodies of the dead into stars. This tradition stretches back to before the Guild.
The log message won't be able to have detail like that for release, because of performance restraints but I will keep it in mind for the future.

Okay, thanks.
If the variables are the issue, then even just some expanded text will help improve the feel of the entry.
I'll add a note to the typos thread later.

My captain just died in a random deep space accident when he had 134 HP. Is that supposed to be possible?

My captain just died in a random deep space accident when he had 134 HP. Is that supposed to be possible? Nvidia Shield K1 Android 7.0 Hard to say. Accidents can definitely be fatal. Any idea what type of test you failed or what the event log said? Perhaps the Captain HP bar was not updated to represent a lower health? Could be a different bug. Depending on how bad you failed the test, you'll suffer more damage.

I don't know the answers to those questions, but I recall about a half-second before the "captain died during an accident" message came, there was a skill test that I failed that lowered my HP from >140 to 134. I'm not sure it that is related, though.

resistor - thanks for the info. Captain death by accident definitely qualifies as "no fun." Will investigate.

Sounds fine but, yes, impossible to say without specific details. Very easy to miss something significant. Check the log. If you need additional analysis or counseling, we'll need the saved game. Thanks! I can't send you the saved game because this isn't a rooted device, and I have a habit of deleting captains immediately after they die. Sorry! Edit: It looks like Cory's original post in the thread immediately disappeared after I posted this. What happened there?

I delete it because I felt, after posting it, that the tone was wrong. I posted before seeing fallen's response, which I believed better represented our feelings on the issue. fallen already knew your device so didn't ask for a saved game -- the investigation continues regardless. We will figure it out!
