When I launch a new game I am getting a Prince as a starting contact in addition to the normaly selected contacts from the template. This is happening across all difficulties, with contacts at both ends of the template, with and without the starter pack selected. It is always an extra Prince.

bobc - that is correct. At the moment, an extra Prince is being added to all games. Sorry we didn't mention it. As intended.

I selected a Prince and got not one but two Princes chillin' on the same planet. And they're the same faction. Actually, all but one of my contacts settled on the one planet. I have a screenshot on my phone. I can send it to you or Cory, lemme know which.

You get one Free Prince. Merry spicemas. I like to think of it as this Prince is the one who sponsored your Star Trader License

It is a story contact so that particular prince that you're being allocated at the beginning of the game will play a role in the tutorial and you're introduction to Star Trading. We need to give out a few static resources that will be entry points to story elements.

About to slightly derail this thread, but I just discovered the perks of having many Contacts in the Starting Quadrant. I picked 2 (Prince + Intel) plus got the bonus Prince. After 1-2 initial short haul missions, built up enough Rep to get Military Rank 2 and take two Missions at a time. I now have 6 local (no warp) Missions that paid 3-5k each. Big haul for early game!
This is much more efficient than the single Prince I had for previous Alpha releases.

It is a huge advantage of taking more contacts.

If you liked that, try it with 10 Contacts. You'll have friends all over and do missions going both ways

I fear it will be much less fun when they start getting peeved with you when you arrive 2 years late with an amusing story about being sidetracked by somebody else's mission ....

Lol. My suggestion specifically related to the period when you are getting No-Jump Missions.

Prince was my default contact, will be nice to select some other contact types, regardless of # contacts in ABCDE priorities. Or do you think there is another benefit of multiple Princes early game?

Taking strong starting Contacts may help your Faction as much as it helps you, honestly. I'd say it is two fold in that regard.
From a double Prince standpoint -- yes, there is certainly value. Especially if the "free prince" you get is a shady story character with an agenda and mental issues.
