Try: Our actions have harmed Jerry Saunas and have only deepened the mutual emnity the Starport Commander has with Politician Elaine Gockel. (Only the 'the hatred shared by' part is wrong, but this way keeps you from needing to keep track of whether the Commander is male or female.) The influence numbers seem to indicate that Gockel both lost 2 influence and gained 1. Experimentation has shown that she did indeed lose 1 influence with every mission she did against this person -- I am trying to raise her influence so I can hire some diplomats from her, so these turned out to be bad missions for me to do. I think the numbers should be consolidated. Will this always happen? If so a warning that the Politician wants to spend some of her influence damaging her enemy would be very good to have at mission acceptance time, so you can know to avoid them if you are trying to build up her influence.

If they're trying to spend, it is outside of the missions system.
We'll definitely take a look at this, missions continue to improve.
Great screenshot, illustrates an interesting case ... something we can work on.

Here's another screenshot. This time the enmity is so bad that my contact is willing to drop two points of influence every step of the way for the chance to bash his nemesis. Sounds like 'cutting off my nose to spite my face' to me ... I think that people with only 6 points of influence should be desperately worried that they will lose all they have, and not decide to spend the very last drop on revenge, but, of course there are people like that ....

This is actually a very interesting dynamic (if intended). Could be tied to certain Contact Traits like spiteful or something.

This is simply a typo in the text formatter. It switched the name in the second sentence to the mission giver instead of the target contact.
The Influence gain or loss goes to the target contact (+/- depending on the ally/enemy).
The Contact giving the mission always gets +1 Influence for the mission completion.
Improved the message about "standing" to be very clear that is Influence.

Ah, nothing all the interesting, then.
