Do you have any idea for filtering ship components in the design and upgrade systems?
This will be a pretty big list, and the player will depend on filtering and sorting pretty heavily to find the right components.
We will be offering a lot of different filter options (mass, type, properties, function) but I'd be curious what your thoughts are.
Filter weapons by range? Filter only things that add fuel? Let me know if anything jumps out at you.

Filter by AP for weapons
Filter by skill requirements for any component type

Filter by type of damage? I am not sure we need this because I am not sure why the sort of damage matters. But, of course, this would make it easier to experiment.

I want a 'filter on things good for spy/explore/blockade missions'. The crew and ship protecting things and the get better rewards things.
Filter on 'specifically improves defense' -- the idea here is that somebody who is new to all of this can get a list of what they could buy that could improve the defense of their ship, because until you have done this quite a few times you just don't know what your options are. Do I need more shields? More armour? And what does the Pilot Matrix do and why should I get one?
And I really want a way to filter on NOT -- i.e. show me all the LARGE things that I can put on this ship filtered by NOT weapons and NOT Engines.
I want 'filter weapons by operates at all at distance'. So give me a list of all the things that you can shoot enemies with at range 4, even though some of them are better at 5 and some are better at 3.
Sort by damage given Sort by weight Sort by price

Need the ability to see all options of the same TYPE across different SIZE categories. For example, I want to be able to see all the Missile components, even though some are Small and some are Medium. I don't want to need to check each size category separately just to see if something exists there. I want to directly compare and make a decision.
grävling, I'm not sure if Filter by Damage Type will be helpful, considering (at this point) almost all weapons currently do both Void and Radiation damage.
Might also be helpful to new players. Not sure if it's feasible, but perhaps a filter of some kind that highlights components that are good for Fuel Efficiency. Right now, other than #E Engines, I'm not sure if there are any others. Perhaps the -X Fuel Cost for Hyperwarp might fit this category too. By the way, there really should be specific text description for the E Engines.
Sliding scale filter for price. For example, I currently have 100k credits. I only want see components 50k-120k, so I can pick something suitable for my current point in the game. Slightly overpriced is okay since I can wait a bit to get more, but I don't want to see things >120k as it will take too long to get the creds.
Just to clarify on the Filter Weapons by Range, it would be good to have two separate filters. One is Best at Range # (more restrictive), the other is Fires at Range # (more inclusive).
One for medical facilities.
Not sure if feasible, but Mission-dependent components? Like Prison Cell, Passenger Cabin, Lux Cabin, in the future the Med Bay.
That's all I can think of for now. We'll have more ideas once the hybrid upgrades and more missions get pushed out.

Not sure if feasible, but Mission-dependent components? Like Prison Cell, Passenger Cabin, Lux Cabin, in the future the Med Bay. I think this is very important. At any rate, trying to do something else, I just discovered the Luxury Apartment. It's also medium sized, and gives a mission bonus but holds 3 guests. I'd have been using one of these all the time if only I had noticed that it existed. Especially since it is priced the same as the luxury cabin -- perhaps that is an error? And this is what we really need in an interface -- a way to browse in a sane fashion so you can build a mental model of what there is out there without having to stumble upon these things thinking you were buying something else ... Now, off to tell those 3 diplomats that they are all going to be sharing space. The nice news is that I can buy some pilot soak with the cabins they were using ...

That triple passenger component is one I added in the last pass and I suspect it is broken from a pricing standpoint. I need to talk to fallen about it still, to make sure it is a good idea. Lots of good feedback in this thread. Thanks for all these posts!

Well I love it, and the Prison block sized 3, too. I'll happily pay a lot more for one of either of these but will be very unhappy if they go away altogether.

Size flexibility and density of effect are good things to include. I don't think they'll go away, but they may receive different bonuses or something compared to the other, single luxury cabins.

Well, it makes sense to have prisoners crammed in close proximity to each other, but having 3 passengers sharing the same dimensions as a regular Luxury Cabin? I wouldn't consider that a Luxury Apartment, unless it had technologically advanced miniaturization involved. Not saying it shouldn't exist, just that it doesn't make sense that the smaller space (per passenger) is considered the same degree of luxurious.

Maybe it should just be like 3 regular passenger cabins.

It all makes logical sense in the next build as well as other fixes. Thanks!

I'd actually be interested in a way to house my officers more efficiently than 1-per-small. I keep wanting more smalls for Pilot Assist, Navigation assist, etc.

That's a design-balance decision. That wanting more smalls is a desire to buy a non-starting ship.
