We got badly shot up by Pirates, so I headed to an indie planet hoping to keep my crew. My Zealot Talent 'Unbending Law' fired. Allyn Halden was prevented from leaving, but Kenji-Saung (level 8 Navigator) and Tassana Jehos (level 7 Solider) left. This isn't what I would have wished -- Allyn Halden is a Crew Dog, and I would have tossed him out the airlock myself or shot him dead just to be able to keep either of the other two. I have plenty crew dogs onboard the ship, and can hire more any time I feel like it. But Tassana was one of only 2 soldiers I had, and I had spent cash to get her from a contact. I'd like it if the game considered that crew that you spent money for were more valuable than ones you got for free, and crew that hold a job that is rare on your ship were more valuable than the ones holding jobs shared with 4 or more others. It may be that when the ability to mark crew as special, this will be all that is needed -- the talent should preferentially target special crew for retaining. But in that case, we need the special marking to distinguish between 'special -- very valuable crew member' and 'special -- I am watching you because I suspect or know you have a nasty trait, and will fire you next time I can replace you'. I wouldn't be wasting my time trying to convince the Worldsick or suspected Worldsick to stay, when they try to abandon the ship, if there were anybody else to talk into staying.

Thanks for the feedback! For now, the Talent will continue to focus on highest level crew who attempts to abandon. We could expand the rule to simply skip crew dogs altogether, but I feel that will be confusing.

Let's look at it again when the ability to mark people as special goes live.

Let's look at it again when the ability to mark people as special goes live. Yeah but that is UI layer only data, we won't be using it with rules or talents.

So there isn't an easy way to hook the talent up into your list of specials? So it could prefer to save a special if they tried to run instead of a more experienced, but much less desirable crewdog? I see changes to my gameplay then. I will keep firing crewdogs on a regular basis just so that, should there be a problem and people start to abandon ship, other people will the ones talked out of it.

We'll keep it as an open point of discussion here whether the Talent should skip crew dogs.
