ST2: Filter and Sort Memory

This question applies to all filters / sorts within the game. If you go into crew list, and filter by Leveling ... do you work, leave. Do you want to come back to an unfiltered list (NO) or a list filtered by leveling (YES) which is potentially empty and requires you to unfilter.

Just my play style. I don't ever end a game session without making sure everybody that can level has done so. For me it would add a click not remove one.

If I was landed on a planet before ending a session it would be nice to return to the Stardock instead of being in orbit on the map, that would often save a click.
I also wouldn't have to go through the landing/fuel test again.

Thanks for the feedback on the filtering. I am curious -- inside your game session, the filter would be remembered too. So is that helpful? You go to crew list, set filter to level -- level everyone. Then play for 10 minutes, more levels have been achieved. You return to crew list, it remembers the filter (level) and you don't have to set it again. Just want to be sure its clear.

That second request is not something we'll be able to do in ST2. The game will always load to the main map.

By default, the Captain and Officers already appear at the top of the crew list. There is no need to scroll or filter to see if they have leveled or been injured.

I can and do often forget to level regular crew even though I payed them. The crew are still getting their morale bonus when payed but not leveled so I'm safe from a morale failure.

Crew leveling seldom tips the balance causing the "Damn I forgot!" effect

It's the Captain and Officers that must be leveled immediately, and you already provide that filter as a default display.  (Big thanks for doing that  )

P.S. A little off topic. I think it would be great to add one more filter option in the drop down menu, that displays one combined list of (who died + who quit).
Then you wouldn't have to check the Captain's log all the time.

Gets a yes vote from me. Going to the exchange and only having to select that goods are sorted alphabetically descending once per game (instead of every time you enter the exchange) sounds great.

I like the idea of saving Sort, maybe clear Filters when you leave, or clear Filters if they don't have anything, like having no Crew ready to Level would remove the Leveling filter

Seems like a pretty mixed bag of feelings about it, sounds like it could be hard to get a good result across the game and make players happy about it.

I really think it depends on play style. I'm thankful that we HAVE filters, not so concerned with their 'settings'. But for me, the default would be to show as currently, with officers at top. Not bothered by game not remembering the last filter used. So I voted no. :-(

Also, with John Robinson 's concern with leveling regular crew ... I'm assuming that will fix itself with the UI improvements over time. The scrolling status doesn't bang you over the head with any major events/issues yet, and the dashboard and crew button indicators will stick out more with future UI changes. It was just by chance that the new game I started had stopped on 2 different crew persons bringing down everyone's morale by 10 (each!). So I went to the status/crew and ferreted out those guys and threw them in space. In both of them, they were hidden traits, but the status called them out by name (sneaky bastards...). I'm sure the final UI will point things out like this more clearly, and/or we'll be able to filter it to recognize specific types of significant events :-)

For crew:

We have a 'ship ops' filter now, which I do not find useful, though I do find the 'fighters' one quite useful. The filter I wish we had was 'not-officers'. The sort I find most useful is 'sort by job'. The other sort I find useful is 'sort alphabetically A-Z' (which I wrote A-Ö, too early in the morning for me, it seems, as that is Swedish

I am not sure why MintDragon is voting 'No' when he likes the default presentation. If he doesn't change the presentation, he will always get that, so no problem for him. It's the people who don't like the default who will mostly benefit, because they are the ones that always have to click. fallen -- results like this are why polls like that should always contain a 'I don't care' result. If the people who don't care all vote 'no' or all vote 'yes' then it is hard to interpret the results. It's quite common to end up in the state where most people don't care, but a minority care very, very much. You want the minority to stick out so you can decide whether a) to add the feature because it means so much to them -- or not add the feature because they hate it so much or b) to ignore their wants because there are so few of them. But without being able to tell the people who care from the people who don't but politely voted something anyway, it is hard to make such decisions.

I think you are seeing demand for 'Officers on Top' as distinct from any other filtering and sorting. The people who like the default presentation like it because it gives them officers on top, not for its other properties -- but I could be misinterpreting what is being said here.

While I would be happy if the game would remember my filter preference from the last time I looked at my crew, and so voted yes, I would be overjoyed if it would remember my sort preference from the last time I looked at my crew.

For exchanges:
Yes, yes! Please remember my filter preference from the last time! Please!

And I still want a real 'Sort by Price', listing from most expensive thing sold to cheapest.

Perhaps you are not getting a clear result because the majority of the replies are focused on the crew filters, which is reasonable since that is the example that you provided.  However, the question applies to all filters / sorts within the game, which I presume also includes those filters / sorts that have yet to be implemented.

I anticipate in the future that there will be filters / sorts for all manner of things, including active Missions, Contacts, buying new ships, Rumours or upgrading ship components.

Might it be worth delaying any resolution until we get a clearer vision of the range of activities that filters / sorts will eventually support / encompass?

yep grävling, bobc that's fair. I was only thinking of the crew sort, and the way it currently is... and kinda meh on it. I am currently using different filters on crew pretty regularly, and tho leveling is the most common, it's not the only common use. I would prefer not to have the crew screen be blank (no leveling up needed) when opening it.

But I will second grävling on the price sort. I know it lists A through F as the default, but as I get higher trade permits, I'm more interested in the more expensive items. So the 'reverse' sort of the 'Price' column actually sorting on price (descending) seems logical.

In terms of click-saving, not having to go through 'Status' to find your crew would save 1 click per look. startradersrpg.proboards.com/thread/15947/more-hud-ideas for how I would like to go directly from the HUD to crew levelling (with my sort preference saved, and officers on top if I can order the sundae with all my favourite toppings).
