I normally manually assign my starting crew Talents. It would be much more convenient for me to be able to assign my chosen crew Talents in the Template rather than assign them for every new captain.

But how do you know what you want until after you have seen their skills and stats? i.e. don't waste any crew dog talents on that woman! We're going to make her an officer, and she wants to save them for her new job! ?

Not something we are planning to add. Manually assigning Talents is a real chore.
My suggestion would be to focus on the fact that you're starting crew isn't the best crew nor are they going to live forever.

Manually assigning talents is a chore to the sort of person who finds such things a chore -- but the source of a great deal of pleasure for people who like this sort of stuff, who aren't as rare as you might think.

grävling - well, that's interesting to hear. That feature was absolutely on the chopping block to be replaced with a feature "complete my entire crew" which would get you officers and Talents of different types to cover the basic saves (Commanders, Doctors, whatever to fill in your profession's gaps). Maybe both ends of the spectrum are needed (do nothing for me, do everything for me).

Whether I want my command saves made by Commanders or Star Traders is something I absolutely don't want you to decide for me, but I know plenty of people who would very much like exactly that. And a rather large contingent who would like this selected for them while they are learning to play, but will start wanting to make their own decisions once they think they have learned enough with the training wheels on.

Totally support grävling here, the manually assign talents feature at start up is a must for me. I would never consider automating my officer / talent selections. How else would you get to know your crew? Its like going to dinner and trusting a stranger with the menu!!!

Interesting how different players are. Having a "start up without lots of clicking" will be really important for new players.
I would consider "Manually assign Talents" a death trap for a new player. They are likely to walk from the game.
For me, I have very little attachment to my starting crew.

I'm with grävling. No chop please. But by all means, you can keep auto-assign the default action.

I like the idea of 3 choices. It covers the base of player types. Those that want to jump right in and those that love to micro manage everything.

Think you've hit the nail on the head with those 3 options, looks great

I think this will work, yes. It wasn't that I was opposed to having a way for people who want it all assigned for them to get what they want, I only objected to me getting it too.

Half auto and half manual (what we have now) 3. Give me a complete crew with leveled officers and all Talents assigned I would like to have all three. Pretty much repeating what I see above. Option 1. Manual Everything - the more you learn about the complexity of ST2 the more you want to hand pick the crew. Option 2. Half auto half manual - I like what we have now, life can be random maybe the captain has to make due with the crew he gets. The random crew dogs keeps it a new game every time you create a team. But the Talents he chooses in his officers is under his/her control. A Captain might say, "I'm not paying a signing bonus to somebody I don't want in command" Option 3. Give me pregenerated Captain, officers, crew. You're right about new players just walking away from the game without it. How many Steam reviews have you seen where the person played for 30 minutes then gave a thumbs down because it didn't make sense to them. This is what you see on Bigfish games too. People get to play a Bigfish game for 1 hour free, they play for 20 minutes and take longer than that to write a good or bad review. First impressions are so important. Having option 1 & 2 tells players of all levels there is allot more available when ready to move away for Option-3 and step up to the challenge.
