I've noticed an oddity, maybe a bug, maybe I don't understand something.
I go to my favourite merchant of rare trade goods. He's a merchant, and in my home faction. I buy a ship-load of them from him.
I travel 2 quadrants over. I sell them on a Mining world of my home faction, since they give me the best prices. (Only C+, but still the best.)
I get scads of rep from my home faction, who are overjoyed to get the stuff.
My friend the rare trade good merchant gets lots of influence. So does the other guy from my home faction who is living in the same settlement on the same planet as the rare trade good merchant. I don't know any other people in that quadrant, but I assume they are getting more influence as well.
Then I go back to do this again, though this time I will visit a different home mining world. I know lots of them.
All well and good, and as far as I can tell, working as it is supposed to. But my personal rep with the rare trade good merchant suffers greatly. It's now down to -14 or so. With the faction bonus the effective rep is still positive, since my faction loves me a whole lot, but the direct personal rep with the rare goods merchant isn't positive. And, in addition to moving his stuff, I did missions for this guy, to get him enough influence that he could start selling me rare trade goods. I also hired 2 pirates from him, but I still should be way ahead in the rep department just because I pick up missions from him while I am getting the rare goods, assuming they don't require me to travel too far -- or fight any ships, or explore any wildernesses, as I am rubbish at the second, and in a Juror.
I don't think I am doing anything else, like supporting his enemies, that could give him any outside reasons to hate me.
Shouldn't he like working with me since I am moving his goods so quickly that his influence in the house is at an all time high, and will only increase as long as I keep loading up and going off to sell? I can see losing something with this guy -- though I wish they were called kudos -- when I buy rare goods from him, since having just done me the big favour of selling his goods with me, he doesn't owe me any more favours right now, but I think I am losing personal rep when I sell the goods at the other end on the Mining worlds. And this doesn't make sense to me. He should love this -- I could have sold them on Indie worlds or had them stolen by Pirates and he would have got no influence out of the transaction.
