Galtak Freighter Has a base armor(7) and shield(5)
Might seem like obvious questions, I want to make sure nothing gets overlooked.
1) Would Installing Armored Bulkheads 4 (+11 Armor) bring my total armor to 18?
2) How does armor work in combat, how much damage soak can I expect? Does it reduce , radiation, and void damage ?

1. Here's my answers based on previous info from an older thread. Yes, it should raise your total armor to 18. If you have any +% Armor Talents, they would only boost it up to 20 Armor (the max).Is 20 armour the structural maximum? I'm hoping / assuming that stacking the right buffs will take my armour value far higher than that? Maybe, but at this point, no. 20 will be the hard max. We might consider some diminishing returns but really the balance is about stack and combo, rather than max out. Critical to think about balance regarding damage soak because it is symmetrical! So critical, you really don't want to face fully math-hard inbalanced ship builds, right? 2. I don't think Armor affects Void/Radiation damage. If you want to reduce Void/Radiation damage, you'll need those Void-Shield and Radi-Shield components. That said, those special damages are currently getting overhauled, so things may change.
It seems Armor is very good at soaking Hull damage, but not that great at preventing secondary damage. Armor protects Hull. Shields reduce Hull damage translation to component damage.

The next release has replaced Armor and Shield numbers with actual %. Armor is, simply put, the % of damage soaked whenever hit with standard damage. Any unsoaked Damage is dealt to the Hull and then passed on to Components. Before damage is dealt to the components, the Shield % is soaked.
Armor has no effect on Void or Radiation Damage.
So ...
Damage > Reduce by Armor > Damage goes to Hull > Reduced by Shields > Damage goes to Components

He awakens in a darkened elevator. The doors open and a searing blast of heat and smoke fills the tiny compartment. Did he wake up in a burning building? In a voice coming from nowhere and everywhere. "Aye my king it's a Trese Brother, Yes sir, right away sir" As a red taloned hand emerges from the thick smoke and pushes the up button. "Sorry lad as much as we would like to have you. Your Karma forbids it, you are on the wrong elevator. When you get to the lobby on your left will be an elevator marked, Peter's Penthouse, you'll recognize it when you see the gates." +1
