Realize I don't fit Cory Trese idea of a perfect player because I spend so much time looking for ship crews with the right sorts of traits and abilities. That said I still believe the randomizer for your starting crew needs some improvement. Just loaded fresh captain and 9 out of the 19 officers and crew had the Mysterious trait. That one isn't completely horrible, have had my Spy captain load up and find a dozen Rigedly Lawful officers and crew on the Juror. Bottom line is that both positive and negative traits are often showing up at start in huge clumps. Half your starting crew may be Loyal which is great or 3/4 could be Stubborn which is not so great. Usually I can tell with just looking at the 2 officers and first couple crew what sort of trait mix I'll find and if getting rid of all the undesirable types is going to be more effort than just deleting captain and starting fresh.

I don't dismiss anyone. Lol. I guess I should be paying closer attention to their traits. If we are passing checks and getting the missions done in a timely manner, then I hardly care. At the higher difficulties, they usually just die or leave eventually. I also rarely keep a full officer roster and wait until someone pulls a clutch move before I fill the officer quota.

Starting crew traits are heavily influenced by factors such as Captain type and zone / planet / quadrant ratings. I think that the clumps you are seeing are more a design feature than they are bad randomization. There is a thread buried somewhere explaning it all.

The Traits your starting crew are given are random within a certain set based on Faction, Captain's Job and each individual crew member's job. Later when recruiting, the Faction, Zone, Planet, Quadrant ratings and the individual's starting job are all taken into account to produce the Traits. Still, doesn't mean that the Trait weighting done at character creation couldn't use improvement. We're always working to improve.
