We're working toward a point where your starting officers will have better Jobs, including Doctor and Command Saves in the mix. Also, I think fixing Ship Ops / Electroncs save issue is going to have a big effect, those are two very common saves. Definitely. And I have started building my command crew accordingly. Since I manually assign talents, the first thing I do when I start now is usually get a doctor, quartermaster, or pirate so that I can have those skills available to me.

Was upsetting during my re-discovery phase (haven't played much since Phase 1) that I still couldn't really tell which saves were going to cause what kind of damage, but a vast majority of the issue here, I think, was the hidden understaffed tests that were also not getting an appropriate talent save, and with that fixed for the next release I'll be eager to see how the balance shifts. I also agree that it might be a good idea to have a form of "getting started" section of the wiki, but almost all the players who are a part of the Alpha are most likely CK or ST1 veterans. Maybe some Heroes of Steel fans in there too. By the time the game is ready for public releases/testing I'm sure there will be some form of basic tutorial or at least splash screens to explain the basics.

Everyone is invited to contribute to the WIKI. I think a getting started page would be a killer resource appreciated by many players.
Addressing the thread title, we've made bug fixes that have removed all "unknowable" sources of death.
