There should be some internal coherence in naming. With regard to Skills, that means making all of them nouns (e.g., Navigation, Piloting), rather than some being nouns (e.g., Evasion, Gunnery) and others being verbs (e.g., Navigate, Pilot). More precisely, I propose:
● Blades ● Command ● Electronics ● Evasion (not Evade) ● Exploration (not Explore) ● Gunnery ● Intimidation (not Intimidate) ● Medical Care (or Medical Support, or Healing, or even Doctoring, but not Doctor*) ● Navigation (not Navigate) ● Negotiation (not Negotiate) ● Piloting (not Pilot*) ● Pistols ● Repair (or Repairs?) ● Rifles ● Ship Ops ● Stealth ● Tactics
* Both because all Skills in this list should be nouns and because a Skill and a Profession shouldn't be named the same; that's bound to cause confusion now and then.

Interesting. If we rename, might I suggest MEDICAL vs Medicine? Doctors do more than issue pills and shots

Interesting. If we rename, might I suggest MEDICAL vs Medicine? Doctors do more than issue pills and shots That would make it the only adjective in the Skill list. For consistency's sake, I think all Skills (like all Attributes) should be nouns.

haha. ok.
but medical is both an adjective and noun. (I work in the field). It's less common in US English, more common in UK English.

Ah, but then that's a very uncommon use among laymen. The Merriam-Webster Collegiate mentions "medical" only as an adjective. The Merriam-Webster Unabridged does mention it as a noun, but only for a person (something akin to "medic," I suppose) or as a shortened form for "medical examination" -- in either case, not as a skill. I do understand the problem you have with "medicine," though, since strictly speaking it doesn't include surgery. What do you think of "Medical Care"? Or "Medical Support"?

personally, more concerned with UI on the status screen. It'll definitely get cleaned up (lots of overlaps, depending on the device), but I'd trade off on the naming convention (verb, noun, adj, etc.) to just have a word that 'fits' well and creates a better UI visually. So a longer word (or two word) description may or may not fit. *shrug* I'm sure Andrew already has it figured out tho

I thought we had long ago scrubbed "Melee" out of the Skills in favor of blades. I found two places where it was still used and fixed!

For what it's worth, "Medical Care" would be just one character longer than "Intimidation" and "Negotiation" (space included), whereas "Medical Support" would be four characters longer. Of course, not all characters take the same space, and even one character too long can mess up a UI. But I'm sure Andrew can make sure it doesn't happen.

Flipped Explorer to Explore The current list still mixes verbs and nouns, though, which is less than ideal, and it has two skills that are also professions (which is bound to cause confusion now and then).
