One thing I really enjoy is encountering new worlds and cultures. I love all the factions in STF but right now they all seem pretty generic. I would love to see some variation in naming or greeting that would help set the factions apart. It might reek a little havoc, but if some factions called the Exchange the Market or Mercantile or Trade Floor that would be pretty cool. Even zone types could have variations. Why not a Grow or Cultivation Zone instead of a Farming Zone, or an Extraction zone instead of Mining Zone?

I don't think we'll be trying to build character into the Factions with naming of the basic game functions.
Those names are set by the Captain, as he or she is the one navigating the world. That's a Farming Zone in the Captain's Star Atlas, and that's what we're doing the UX about.
There are just so many more interesting ways to differentiate the Factions -- and that's where I want to focus. Faction specific stories, Contact types, mission, recruits, items and unique places.

I also think part of this is the need for the custom quadrants we are working on, both internally and with backers.
The "new worlds and cultures" won't necessarily be the random Cadar Farming world that has flavor (aside from Cadar stories, Cadar contacts types, Cadar mission, Cadar recruits, Cadar crew gear, weapons, armor) but it will be the Tabor Outback, Rim and whatever else Andrew is going to name these places we're building. They'll be part of the carefully designed blend of procedural generated and hand crafted RPG elements.

Definitely not renaming core game functions. I really like the other ways we've work on building out Faction differences -- every Faction has their specialized naming lists, ever Faction has their own zone bonuses, every Faction has their own Traits list for recruits from their worlds, etc. Those kind of things are fun and meaningful. Renaming Exchange to anything else is just asking for confused players and bugs

I think the core point you're making contributor is well agreed upon -- we need to make the universe as enthralling and atmospheric as possible.

I think the core point you're making contributor is well agreed upon -- we need to make the universe as enthralling and atmospheric as possible. That is exactly my concern. Whatever way you guys deliver is good with me. I'm just making suggestions that come up to my head not expecting you guys to jump on them all.
