Evasion Skill is not useful for Pirates, since they aren't combat crew, and have no crew combat Talents. It would make sense for them to have Gunnery Skill because they are supposedly "experts at blockading worlds to intercept, cripple, and capture ships", and you can't disable a ship without lighting a few fires.

In the same vein, one of the Pirate's traits is Dead Aim (+15% Critical). If that bonus only works in crew combat, then the Pirate should have a weapon skill (in which case boarding becomes an option). Or else, of course, this trait could be replaced by another.

Ok, will take a look. Pirate originally included Swordsman abilities, so these look like vestiges of that original setup.

Yeah, Blades do work for pirates!
Ah, this is one profession that just needs too many skills. You could replace Evasion by Blades, since other melee-worthy professions don't have evasion (I think of Spy, Military Officer, and Zealot).

Evasion -> Gunnery confirmed. All Pirate Talents relate to space combat, so flipping them to blades isn't helpful either at this point. If you want to be a Pirate-Swordsman, then subclass into Swordsman Traits will take a bit more work to get to, but it is on the list.

A drawback of giving Blades to Pirates, I now realize, is that Pirates and Zealots would have shared two skills.

... and Pirate would continue to be a confused class with a skill that has nothing to do with their Talents. Fixed
