Ok, I'm trying to get to 20 rep with this stupid Cadar Commander just so I can test his story and he's giving me tons of missions that give me 1 rep with him. I was at 17 and got a one-way 7 jump mission to go kill some people planet-side. I was hoping that would push me over the limit, nope 1 rep. 14 jumps for 1 rep! Maybe I'm just more frustrate now because he finally gave me a mediation mission. I thought "well 3 stops should guarantee that I get there. Get to the first planet. It's quarantined! I really hate this guy right now.
Anyways, I think it's true overall. In pretty much every game I give up on gaining rep by doing missions, because it's just not worth the time/distance reward for it.

Unfortunately, distance is not something we can easily use to measure additional Rep gains.
I have bumped the minimum to 2, and started a project of reviewing each mission action type by type to find ones that need more rep bonuses.
I started with ship and crew combat both adding in a major rep bonus.

There are a couple of talents that improve rep gain during missions. These can make life a lot easier when trying to get on the good side of your contacts. Working for Commander Russ I was pulling up to 7 rep per mission with him. That was playing on basic difficulty though; not sure if difficulty affects your rep gain?

Yeah I had some of those talents, but I think if he's giving a base rep of 1 it's hard to boost that up much. When he gave me a mediation tour and I waited out the quarantine on the first planet I finally made rep and probably finished that tour close to 30 rep with him. That mission felt so OP in terms of reward from everything else he was giving. I had two ship combat missions and one crew combat mission that all gave 1 rep. When you consider the risk of losing experienced crew it seems very backwards. I was playing on Impossible if that makes a difference.
