Regarding Critical Hits, the Wiki page for Ship Damage Types says: - A Critical Hit will cause the Internal Damage being done by that attack to be increased by 100%.
- Critical Hit damage multipliers include Radiation damage done by that weapon. Void Damage is not effected by Critical Hits.
But Cory previous said: Also note that Critical Hits improve component damage for the ENTIRE round's component damage. So if you land 2 critical and 1 non-critical that does a lot of damage, the critical bonuses impact ALL the damage being allocated into the components. Which is correct? Thank you.

Both are correct!
Critical hits increase damage and impact the application of component damage.

Hmm, wait, I'm still a bit confused. So if the Critical bonuses do spread across the entire round's hits, shouldn't the Wiki say "all attacks" and "all weapons" instead of "that"?

No, in the case of the first statement the words being used seem to be correct. I am trying to parse out the confusion / question but I'm not sure where it is unclear. The suggestion to swap to "all attacks" would make the first part incorrect, mathematically. '

A torp hits the enemy. It causes damage to the hull. If there is a critical, that damage is increased. Some of this damage becomes Internal Damage.
The Internal Damage from all hits are totaled and applied to Components. If there is a critical, then a critical hit bonus flag is set for later use during component damage allocation.
A critical hit from the first torp does not change the hull damage and therefore Internal Damage of the second torpedo is not increased.
However, when all Internal Damage is summed and applied, a critical hit bonus is used when apply damaging to components.
So, both but definitely not "all attacks".
Hope it helps!

Sorry, let's try using an actual example.
Missile A hits, crit! Missile B hits, no crit. Torp C hits, no crit. Missile A does standard (no modifier) hull damage, double internal damage, double radiation damage. Missile B does standard hull damage, standard internal damage, standard radiation damage. Torp C does standard hull damage, standard internal damage, standard void damage.
Because of the critical hit (Missile A), the total component damage for the entire round is improved, compared to if there was no crit. But the crit from Missile A has no direct effect on any damage from Missile B or Torp C.
Is that the correct?
IF that was correct, then I don't understand what this sentence is referring to:

Definitely pretty close. Complex system I clarified my post above to be more clear. To me, that sentence clearly refers to the fact that a critical hit from Missile A grants critical hit bonuses that impact all damage being allocated to components. The fact that a critical hit happened changes the rules about how damage is applied to components.

Thank you both for trying! So basically, it's a good idea to have at least one weapon with high Crit %. I think that's the take home message.

It is a really good idea to have the weapon classes you want for critical hits to have high critical chances.
Every weapon that scores +1 Critical Hit gives you a critical hit in damage application. That's really important.
The bonus damage is nice but not really important. Helps some classes of weapons more than others.
I've been emailing with a player who has been working out the math and is working on writing a guide.
Hopefully that will go up on Steam soon.
Thanks for playing!
