--- This an rfe not a current available component ---
Possible Bark.. For the Captain that needs more reliability during space travel with reduced repair costs. Shipyards can now sell the new M5000 Hyperdrive LR (Long Range) There are quadrants completely hostile where repairs are impossible.
I've been attacked by 3 or more ships before reaching a jump point. Update #50 virtually guarantees you can only use Skip off the void 1 time per quadrant without repairing the Hyperdrive.
Skip off the Void was too easy to use. But I think the pendulum has swung to far in the opposite direction. It seems more fair to allow it to function at least twice per quadrant.
To use it: The electronics cost is doubled, additional +8 Navigation, and +8 fuel cost per jump.
M5000 Hyperwarp LR (Long Range)
+6 Electronics +20 Navigation
Enables Hyperwarp Jump of a 5000 Mass Ship for 30 Fuel.
Damage = (Damage - Nav%) Before skip off the Void damage applied.
Currently Available M5000 Hyperdrive
+3 Electronics +12 Navigation
Enables Hyperwarp Jump of a 5000 Mass ship for 22 Fuel.

We did a lot of testing. I don't agree, I am afraid, with this assessment.
We will monitor the results across everyone playing the game and see if it has too much of an effect.
If it does, we will consider changes. We do have more Talents, Jobs and Ship Components planned.

Given how dangerous using that talent is supposed to be, it doesn't really make sense for any captain to be skipping around the place as a routine action (which I admit I have been doing pre-update #50). It should be available as a last resort, e.g. to escape from Xeno or a Mass 8000 enemy ship. At other times, you'll need to avoid ship combat with StiffSalute/ForgedSignature/bribes, or try to escape from ship combat with as little damage as you can manage. With the right component build, this is manageable, especially if you are playing a 'peaceful' captain.

John Robinson - thanks for the suggestions as always. We will be adding more HW Drives as we continue to expand the component set. I like the look of your proposal. One thing I'd ask is that you don't use this language: "Shipyards can now sell the new M5000 Hyperdrive LR (Long Range)" as it is likely going to confuse other players who don't know that you're making a suggestion instead of announcing new content. Some captains may be scrambling to their starport even now to try to install this wondrous new invention Simple tweak, "I suggest that shipyards start selling..." +1 as always and great suggestions!

Thanks fallen Updated original post so nobody should mistake my imaginary version notes, for a real component.

This makes me wonder if a second escape skill for another class would be desirable. It would do something like SoTV but with a 50 - 70% chance of success depending on Navigation skill. It would have the full fuel cost but 1/2 the damage incurred. You'd still take damage from a failed jump and would jump straight into combat on a failure.

It is unlikely that we will add any other generic escape skills. The profession linked ones are far more interesting and balanced within the game and its context.
I understand that players who rely on Skip will see this as a nerf. However, I do believe that you can continue to use it very effectively to avoid the worst possible combats. Is it less of a "I have 5 copies of it and I avoid all fights" -- yes. We'll keep balancing it. I like the shown HW drive above and think there are some cool options to make HW drives that are less efficient but more resistant to the damage.

Yeah, the more I thought over my idea, the worse I liked it. I agree with you.
