On the starting contacts I noticed sometimes they have a crew recruitment ability and sometimes they dont. Is this totally random or are some contacts more likely to have certain type of recruitments?
What type (besides Ex-Spymaster)can have have the spy recruit? What about the merchant recruit? Diplomat one?

Recruit options are a combination of the Contact Type's recruit + Trait recruit.

Yeap got it,thanks for the explanation and the links too. I find myself sometimes restarting a new game over and over until I get the recruitment I want. Probably a bad way to min-max I admit

saltin - sorry to hear that you are doing that. We'll try to improve to find a way to prevent that loop.

saltin - sorry to hear that you are doing that. We'll try to improve to find a way to prevent that loop. Not a huge deal really, a matter of player preference I think. Any game that is challenging and has random starting chance feature(s) will automatically have many players reroll their games until they see a start they like. In ST2 that means starting contacts and Officers stats and this is how it all started I tell you: The officers are to blame! You see we can customize our captain anyways we like but we can't do that with our officers and if you like to use them for combat like I do then that necessarily mean (for me at least) rerolls. At higher difficulty levels I think we pretty much need a decent stats combat crew dont you think? Who is gonna send a 15 fortitude/resilience officer to board a Xeno ship?

One nice feature would be a restart button. Civilization V has it. It restarts the game at turn zero with all the options you had. As I play on harder difficulties I restart my game more if I mess up early on.

Thankfully we see very few players grinding new game like this. It appears to be a very small number of people that are playing that way which helps us prioritize.
I think the "restart" button is a neat idea and might have been possible to add if we'd considered it during the KickStarter or early alpha test period.
Might be too late for ST2 ... perhaps in ST3!

Might be too late for ST2 ... perhaps in ST3! By Shalun, it has begun. So then can we start asking about ST3 *set in stone* 100% promised release date or is that too early for you guys to commit to? Maps can also have a huge impact in a game and therefore cause players to reroll but lucky for us the game design itself eliminated the need for that tediousness by giving us options to play either in a standard map or in a custom map of our own choosing. So great to have these options!

I would just suggest not rerolling. Your starting Contacts aren't the most important ones for the early game anyway.
Thanks!
