Ok we can gain Rep by acknowledgement of a faction that we have good relation but at the same time we can also loose Rep in the exact same encounter. What are the rules and triggers for loosing Rep by acknowledgement due to a conflict?
Do all conflicts do this or is it only certain type? Does the type of ship that we acknowledge matters for this or do they all have the same effect?
I just started rolling a merchant toon as my primary character and it looks like this game mechanic is what's causing my trade lvl4 permit loss most of the time even with a military rank.

I don't follow. Gaining and losing Reputation with the same Faction?

saltin - at least providing the details about the Rep gain and loss? The result lines always explain it, so we need something or there is no way we can help you. Basic bug reporting suggestion -- tell us what you saw in detail.

No not the same faction, rather gaining Rep with faction X for acknowledging it but at the same time loosing Rep with faction Y because it is in conflict with X.

It is worth mentioning that you can choose to demand tribute until their friendliness is "1" and then retreat to avoid this (but you won't gain rep either.) I just learned about how that mechanic worked.

I just learned about how that mechanic worked. Great, so in conflicts that's the expected behavior to avoid loosing Rep (and the trade lvl4 permit) instead of the normal acknowledgement . I will do this from now on. Only problem is sometimes a conflict sneak up on us without us knowing about it, maybe we should have some sort of an audio or visual notification when a new conflict start with a particular faction that we are interested in. Also hoping none will challenge my unarmed tin can of a ship while I go around demanding tribute from heavy warships

I was just hoping an indicator would be present so we would know to not acknowledge allies when it could interfere with a conflict (or perhaps just a conflict we have something to lose from.)

I'm confused, what part of that is giving you trouble? I didn't know anyone was having problems with that honestly, I see people doing it constantly on streams and in the metrics.

Selecting the tabs for every encounter with an Explorer, MO, Spy, or Zealot is not that fun for me. Perhaps I'm very lazy though. The "Extremely Low Rep" warning for surrender is fantastic as it doesn't force me to switch tabs to know that I don't want to surrender. Having some small indicator to let me know there's a conflict that modifies my interactions with acknowledgement would also be very nice. It could even be the same notice for Alliance as well as Spy War or whatever. If there's something that makes ACK'ing either more or less attractive than usual, I'd be happy to check the tab to see what it is. That would save me time in the common case where I can get a small amount of money or rep but don't have the complication of a secondary rep gain, or rep loss + chance of rank etc. loss.

So glad drspendlove chipped in because I never actually paid attention to the encounter tabs that has some info that Cory just mentioned..and I have been playing the game for a while now Funny how we sometimes miss the obvious things, I guess this happens probably because the important info and the conflict action button are at the very bottom of the encounter pop up box so naturally that's where the player attention goes to. Tunnel vision FTL !!

the problem to me is to not losing 1 rep but the loss of the trade permit 4 ... way so easy to lose it especially for it god dam price It would really be nice to say witch interaction may lose us our permit, rank , edict to prevent easy loss without warning because check every action if our faction have not a faction conflict is quite painful.

We obviously love this game to death. It is easily one of the best games ever created. (Not joking.) When we have a tiny suggestion, it doesn't mean we're butt-mad about the game. It just means that we think one thing could be made slightly MORE awesome. However, you have the data. If the data says it isn't needed, we (I?) trust you to make the right call! Please don't think we're having a bad time. We love your game!!
