I like that different ships start out with set components in them, but I also like to customize the hell out of my ships too... That gets a bit cumbersome... Unless I missed it, you can't sell a component and have a 'blank spot', you have to replace a component with another, similar sized one (if I did miss this capability, please tell me where/how to use it!). Assuming I didn't miss the ability to 'gut my ship' of it's components and put in whatever new toys I want, can you add that ability please? Like instead of saying "# large, # medium, and # small" component slots, just say "Total slots: #" and then we could fill in whatever components we wanted. Obviously some things are always required for a viable ship build (engines, crew quarters, etc). Just a thought, keep up the excellent work!

evilmonkey - thanks for the suggestion! A ship's build is a number of Small / Medium / Large slots. They are configured into its super-structure and the count cannot be changed in customization. You can replace a slot with a Mass Dampener, this is as close as you can get to "empty".

They increase your Jump Cost though. If you don't need the extra mass, then it's a waste. Plus, it can be a liability if it gets >60% damaged in ship combat as the damage will cascade to neighbouring/linked ship components.
If you have spare slots, you might as well get something increases your defensive/offensive bonuses or dice pools.
