There is a crashing defect with Gate Jumps that I am trying to figure out.
At first I suspected it was a single map seed or an issue with a particular Gate.
I've received enough crash reports now to dispel that idea -- there is something more universal broken.
In spite of my efforts to find it, I have not located it yet.
The crash occurs while trying to load the Hyperwarp Gate screen.
It appears that it is crashing because there is no gate. But I cannot figure out how you'd open the screen without a gate.
If anyone has seen this crash or has any clues let me know.

I have seen cases where I am at a planet, viewing the quadrant map, and I right click on another planet. Instead of starting to travel to the other planet, it shows me the planet screen of where I am. This implies that it is seeing the RMB click, and taking the action implied by a click on the new coordinates; but using the old coordinates for the effect. When both coordinates are planets, that just displays unwanted data. I can escape the unwanted planet screen, right click the destination planet again, and it works the second time. But, if the old coordinates were empty space, and the new coordinates were a jump point, I can see why this could cause the crash you mention.
When players report this, were they sitting in empty space or at a planet when they clicked on the jump point? This happens infrequently for me, and not fatally in my case; but maybe sitting in space, and rapidly moving the mouse to right click a jump point could cause it.

Sounds like a different, but equally concerning bug. It doesn't crash in the scenario you've described, and although I am unable to reproduce it under any OS, I will continue to try to figure out what you are describing and how it might occur for a normal player.
The bug I am seeking is related to gates and always crashes. The users aren't reporting it to me directly, the game is alerting me that it crashed and sending me clues about why. The specifics of what was on the screen or the input just before the crash i do not have.
Most of the time I can infer it or puzzle it out but these "Seeing Bug" posts I do occasionally are when I cannot solve the riddle alone.

Appears to be just as described. Thanks for the post, you figured this one out for me when I wasn't able to. Thanks

40 years of programming should be good for something :-)
