New player here, been enjoying the game immensely, but the Rock Paper Shotgun review pointed out one of my gripes with it, combat turns into a total slog after a while. Would it be possible to have a setting for speeding up the combat animations, or turning them off completely? How about space travel? Seeing "waypoint 12 jumps away" annoys me a little because it's going to take a long, long time to get there. I've been on this journey since yesterday morning because I alt-tab out to do something else between jumps and end up forgetting about the game... still three more to go.
Would it be possible to implement a time acceleration setting, something like 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x speed? I understand that this may be tied to the galaxy simulation going on in the background though, is this the case?

Welcome to the forum!
A way to speed up animations is a common request. The Trese Brothers do plan on adding ways to do it, but I don't know when exactly such a feature will be added.

Yeah, a few people have asked for this one occasionally. We put a lot of emphasis on trying to implement features that users ask for, especially when they are popular requests.
The game needs a fair bit of wall time to calculate the entire galaxy's moves while you are sailing. The game isn't wasting time, just running an even set of simulator threads while you sail. Many maps have hundreds of AI agents each taking a turn while you move.
The "fast combat" request is much more popular, and probably more doable given the architecture of the game. Combat is design right now to have an even pacing and be visually smooth. Removing all the animations is something we have on our list and a feature for a future roadmap.
I'm not sure how it lines up with the RPS review's primary gripe, which was combat auto-resolution. I'm not sure we can get them both done in a reasonable timeframe so we'll have to keep listening to the community and watching people play to try to figure out which is a better fit for our players.
Thank you very much for buying the game. That will help us continue to fund improvements, more artwork, music and game play elements. We have years of updates ahead of us, and are looking forward to future updates where all of these features are available.

Speeding up card game animations, ship combat animations, and crew combat animations are without a doubt #1 on my wish list.
By a mile. A space mile.
Surprisingly, I don't mind travel speed nearly as much.

Hopefully you're able to find a way to enjoy the game while we work to improve it as quickly as we can. Team of two working on a Kickstarter backed project. Lots of promises made!

Lots of promises made! you havent missed the mark at all! wouldnt be so active in the community if it wasnt stellar. but everybody's got a wishlist of small time items they'd like to see. i think it says a lot when someone's main wishlist item is just for the game to be faster so u can play more of it - and not 'man this mechanic or part of the game i dislike'. i also imagine its not top priority for most players. i bet there are bigger fires to put out. just some unsolicited feedback on this topic hoping to hint that if a change to map speed is difficult, but animations in CC/SC/Cards are easy - maybe you can still reap some solid speed gains for those players w/o getting into the weeds.

Perhaps it would speed things up if instead of doing animations one at a time, you can start the next animation 50% of the way after the first.
e.g. for ship combat, fire torpedo, while torpedo is in mid-flight, start firing next weapon. e.g. for card game, instead of cards disappearing one at a time, start removing the next card after the previous card is 50% transparent.

Thanks for the feedback! We want to be sure to spend our time on resolving the issue and not making half-steps that aren't going to make the crew happy who are asking for skip animations

Well, to be fair, allison did say "speeding up the combat animations, or turning them off completely"
I love seeing the animations, especially the combat ones. It makes it feel more immersive. I wouldn't want to turn them off altogether. Speeding up is just a different option, not a half measure. That said, please proceed however you see fit.
