I think it'd be an interesting option to have perhaps a faction specific engine that is costly to perform range changes with. Of course, it'd need some other advantage to make up for this. I'm thinking:
5 RP to change range. (Penalty) Very High Speed (Bonus) Normal Agility Extra Ship Ops (Bonus) Normal Pilot Slightly Lower Electronics (Penalty) Slightly Lower Cost versus non-"Balanced" engines (Bonus) Fuel Inefficient in Combat (Penalty) Fuel Efficient in deep space travel (Bonus)
It'd be geared toward quick escapes and/or duking it out at range 5 with torpedoes.
