inspired by update #124 (initial rollout of Captain Traits based on profession), just sparked an idea to differentiate factions more. What if there were a Captain only trait(s) depending on their faction/clan as well?Just an idea, but really like to think of ways to differentiate faction A from faction B when choosing during game setup. EDIT: I guess this is in the plans, perhaps this thread can be used for the creative types in the community for ideas of a permanent trait for captains based on profession or faction?

Given how much starting traits differ by faction, I feel like just picking a random trait that would occur on a crewmember of that faction from that planet would be sufficient.
But giving random generation to the captain may induce people to make new games until their fighting captain is ex-military or something.

resistor, Zer0Winds and I came up with faction traits: Javat: Economic contacts offer 1 additional mission option to select from at a time (exceeding the current maximum you have, whatever it normally is with them). Exploration missions offer +30% payment. Thulun: +50% Reputation gains with "Nobility" type Contacts (Prince, High Prince, Politician?, etc.) Steel Song: Discounted Edit REP cost; +50% Contact influence from finishing edict missions. Cadar: Discounted Military Rank REP cost; +50% Contact influence from military missions. Rychart: +25% Influence from Intel sales, +5 Intel sales Rep caps (Max gainable via trade for both personal and faction, as recently updated on the wiki), +5% mission success versus factions you have active conflict intel on. Alta Mesa: +50% Experience gain for Pilots in crew, +10% Experience gain for Pilot officers and Captain De Valtos: +10 Rare Trade Good rep limit, crew salary and spice hall costs are 10% higher, but grant double the morale gains. Spicing can trigger up to two talents at a time. (Necessarily to avoid halving on-spice talent triggers) Zenrin: -25% to all morale loss across crew from orbital and deep space events. Mok (resistor objected to this one though): +15% Profits from factions' goods in an alliance or trade alliance with each other, ignores half of the penalty from Tariffs.

We didn't have any frame of reference for power. So I figured we'll pull out ideas and let the numbers be tweaked afterward.

I think Rychart and De Valtos are my favorites there. This is funny because they're my two least favorite factions.

Here are some additional faction trait ideas...
...Rychart Well-informed: +5% to spying missions success, +5 Wisdom
The idea is to make Rychart's trait useful to spies, but not so specific to spying as to pigeonhole Rychart players into spying, so most of the trait's weight is in its attribute bonus. None of the profession traits give bonuses to Spy mission success, so I thought such a bonus should go to Rychart trait.
...SSC Tempered Steel: +1 Strength, +2 Quickness, violent missions pay 15% more ...Mok Networked Traveller: 50% chance to learn a rumor when buying $4,000 or higher worth of goods, +3 Charisma, +1 Wisdom...Alta Mesa Savvy Shipmaster: 20% chance to gain one point in Pilot when levelling (max 12), can equip two special gear instead of one, +2 Quickness, +1 Wisdom
