Problems: 1) Seven guns is unnecessarily high, and the ship would benefit more from more diverse components 2) Starts understaffed navigation, which confuses new players that choose the default explorer template

Does it *always* start out understaffed with Navigation? IIRC the starting crew complement isn't 100% deterministic.

No, it does not. That is 100% based on your starting Template.

Default Explorer template is an XP:E build.

It might be worth altering that to an XP:D build if that's sufficient to put Navigation at at least 100%. I agree that it'll be confusing to new players and that might not be the best experience for them.
...I just came up with a good idea. I'm posting elsewhere.
