So the AI is getting better which is great. As I play, I feel like I'm sensing different AIs, i.e. you can have the same level/type adversary, but they will be much more or less challenging or behave differently. I'm assuming this is because there are some different AI types that build for different competencies. I may be wrong on all this, but if I'm not, it would be great to have a high-level pre-combat talent that would give you some insight into an enemy ship's build strategy. Maybe it would be a level 15 spy (they've got intel on this capt) or e-tech (they've done a deep scan of the enemy's ship) that would give you insight into what their strengths and weakness are. It would add a lot to the tactical fun if you could anticipate and adapt to what the enemy was going to do. At the moment we are somewhat groping and sometimes after a few turns it's too late to adjust your tactics.
Implementation might be a challenge, but it could be as simple as naming some of the AI and giving a tool-tip that explains them. Player would quickly come to know the different AIs. Otherwise some sort of a graph with Armor/Shield 5, Evasion 10, Accuracy 7, Prefers range 4 could work.

The AI doesn't look at the player's ship design or know anything about strategy before the battle starts. Seems fair

Cool concept, players have asked for this type of scanning Talent before.
