Just a quickie here. As per topic - do zone ratings (Military, Spice, Economy etc.) fluctuate as the game goes on? To specify - I mean semi-permanent alterations rather than rumor-based ones.

Only by Rumor.

Thanks! I hope you don't mind answering another question for me. Is there currently any hidden faction bias in the game? By that I mean are certain factions more prone to form alliances with each other, or quite the opposite - be at each other's throats?

While I'm not sure about this one, I know it was a thing in STRPG, so I can see it being a thing later on, if it's not there already. (Though if it is there, I haven't noticed it)

Yes, there is, but to keep the galaxy and its contact matrix balanced the actual modifiers are not that large. You may have heard, Steel Song and Cadar don't get along that well ;P except sometimes they do.

(Though if it is there, I haven't noticed it) I'm not familiar with STRPG, so I can't speak to that. What I do have to go on is the Caen Storyline, which (using the default Map Seed) consistently gives me the same pairings. Alta Mesa vs RychartThulun vs JavatDe Valtos vs RychartCadar vs Steel Song (and vice versa)Rychart vs MoklumneI'm wondering how nuanced the system actually is.

The rules for how the Faen system opposition is setup is actually very map-based with some preferences given to each possible enemy faction (Cadar will pick Steel Song if possible) while the Conflict rules are not tied as hard to the map. I've added it to the long list to make some notes in the wiki.

The Factions break down into Syndicates and Great Houses.
At a macro level, those groups work together to oppose the other side (while infighting.)
Certain Factions weight certain Conflicts differently. Steel Song Contacts love to start Duel of Assassin Conflicts (unless they are cowards.)
Alliances are more common internal to the Clans or Syndicates. Trade Alliances are more likely to bridge that gap. Alliances between a Syndicate and House are more likely to be brief.
The code is nuanced and is based on the ST RPG simulator. It started with the ST RPG features as the baseline and we've been adding more for the past few years.

I thought so, since the pairings I listed were only consistent for the default Map Seed. Still, I wanted to know if they're indicative of a deeper bias system. I've added it to the long list to make some notes in the wiki. The Wiki is love.

But wouldn't that put the Syndicates at a distinct disadvantage? The Houses are more numerous and boast such... powerhouses (wink, wink) as say Thulun. Even if so, well - such is life. Also - do the Factions have any preferences within their own group? I love the nuance and I need to know more. Thanks!

Well the Great Houses are technically two separate groups, the Great Houses and the Great Clans. The houses consist of Thulun, Javat and Steel Song. The Clans consist of Moklumnue, Alta Mesa, and Zenrin. The entirety of them don't necessarily get along as well as one might think. Same with the Syndicates. Basically, despite the factions being in subgroups, they all hate each other. Except Javat. They're pretty cool. Just don't mess with their Ore.

As far as politics go, Thulun, Jav, SSC, Mok, AM, and Zenrin are in the same category.

!lorebook The division is "Syndicates" and "Houses and Clans" -- just two types, House or Clan is just naming decision from their ancient heritage.
