New Captain. New Quarter Master. Good looking attributes. Aha, I said. 25 charisma! Let us make him a Merchant! Then I looked at his traits. So, would you keep him?

Ahh its so right. I think you do! Sometimes you have to put up with a negative Trait or two. It's just a whee bit of morale loss.

One person with Brute on the ship is tolerable, in my opinion.

It's been working out, except that week when he was injured by the Pirate in the Thulun House ship ... I think he must have caused 3 brawls at the spice hall, while a spice festival was on! Took us *forever* to get out of that place ...

Maybe he earned an eye patch?
I personally enjoy the storylines they create, as long as they last. Which isn't much longer than the Empathetic guy who fell out the airlock last week.

I'd like an eye-patch for him, indeed.
Actually, a club with a spike on it for 'silly weapons day' would be a hoot ...
Maybe your empathetic guy was bullied by my QM. So that was no accident, but suicide ...

Some of the stories .... Look at this new recruit. Exactly what happened in your military career, sir? Are you a former Commander that got drummed out of the service, and is that hidden trait Combat Nerves? Why on earth are you spending your life as an E-Tech when you could be leading my away team?

Wow, we should start a thread dedicated to this -- screenshot + potential story.

Why did you leave your comfortable medical practice to embark on a career as a scavenger? 'I always wanted to have adventures' is really not enough, you know.

Sometimes you're so bad they just kick you out? Insurance claim gone bad?

And this guy .... hates people, but cannot stand to see the pretty ships blow up? Normally I direct Brutes to the airlock as soon as I identify them, but I am about ready to buy a bigger ship. I didn't think, with a 3 officers in the crew combat business already (CM, BH, Assassin) I needed another crew combat officer, but the temptation to see how this one would work as a Zealot is strong. With the thrown wrench talent as an added bonus .... keeping for now ....

I think the longer I've played, the more I've realized that Talents like Brute are completely acceptable as long as you mange their head count. Especially for stats like that!
He just likes to do his mean stuff up close. No, don't destroy that ship, I wanted to terrorize its crew *up close*

I think I'll skip the opportunity to explore here, after we delivered some Vudka for a mission.

Another one with a great story. I found somebody with doctor recruits and decided to hire 2 to handle shipboard doctoring, so that my doctor officer could specialise in combat medicine. I found this wonderful recruit, and learned about the Brave trait. You sir, I thought, are going to make an even better combat medic than my doctor will. Indeed I like you so much in that role that I am going to tell my engineer officer to take a walk, since the engineer recruits I have are running the ship perfectly well without him, and promote you to officer right away. And -- giggle -- look what trait popped next! He may have the trait, but I wouldn't say he was frail. But there is a Chaesin Doctor I know whom I would like you to meet for all that ... And every time his frail trait dialog pops -- 'Wait for me! I cannot keep up!' I keep thinking, Liar! nobody is going to believe that of you Doc .... (Actually, how this one ever got to think of himself as 'frail' is a pretty good question. How would he notice?)
