I am taking the Arbiter 1 hop away to listen to the complaint against Valencia. After this happens, I am supposed to be sent to another planet in the system, where I can spy things out in orbit or go visit on the planet, to get the next step of the mission. When I get there there is a cut scene that says something like 'Navigators be alert, this place is full of debris from the blown up space station'.
What happened instead was that I arrive in the system. I notice that I have a Thulun Princess contact on a planet in this system. I decide to visit my contact before I take the Arbiter to the meeting, since it is on the way. I start to land -- and get the 'Navigators be alert, blown up space station' cutscreen. But I haven't learned about this yet, have I?. I visit with my contact. I take the Arbiter to the meeting. And, sure enough, she wants to go back to where my contact lives and search for more evidence about how the space station was destroyed. The cutscreen does not fire a second time.

grävling - yes, you are aware of the system on which the Highwind was destroyed. That would be a key detail you would have learned early on when agreeing to take the Arbiter on the second leg of her journey. it is a cut scene that fires the first time you enter orbit of the Highwind's system, regardless of when you enter.

Ah, I thought you only found out after the meeting. Guess I have been doing too much of the 'skip dialog I have already read' then. Sorry about that.

Having the planet where the Gestalt hospital is, where you need to do a lot of spying as the same place where I have a contact I am running missions for is meaning that when I arrive to deliver passengers I am getting the story advances even when I wasn't ready for them. I don't know what can be done for this -- perhaps this planet needs to be other-contact free?

The story moves on without you as well, so "being ready for it" is just up to you to manage.

Yes but it is frustrating. I need more time because my crew are too junior and my ship too small for what is to come. But I need to earn money, and by staying away from the Faens and their problems until I was equipped better I could do this. After all the Arbiter said that the court case wouldn't rule against Valencia for another 3 years...

After all the Arbiter said that the court case wouldn't rule against Valencia for another 3 years... Yes, but if the court rules, your officers and captain will discuss the fact that Char must have forced the case forward, worried about competing attempts to derail it. The entire design of the story system is that it moves and does not wait for you to say "Okay, now I'm ready to move on".

I just want to know why the court moved 2 and a half years, nearly 3 before the arbiter said it would. I think it is because I visited this one particular planet. This would be good news if you wanted to advanced the story faster, and were tired of waiting for the court to rule, but I had the other problem.

No, it definitely is not linked to visiting that planet. It already happened, so any starport you landed on, you'd hear the news. It may be because you finished one of the Faen arcs.
I hope that helps!

Ah, that could be. By the way, is there a limit to the number of people Calagen will send you off to visit or does he just keep sending you off until the time runs out, if you don't talk to Zette, Val or Erik Faen?

grävling - there is a limit to the number of special story missions he will send on. When he runs out, he has endless diplomatic errands for you to try to change the course of the case.

Yes, I've been on them forever. Other question -- one game poor Faen got his planet hit by civil unrest, and then tariffs and then something else. Meanwhile other chars are working away at reducing his influence, and turns out that I am helping them because my big contact turns out to be a traitor. When my ship got blown up, Faen's influence was 13 and falling. Can he get eliminated in the game?

At this time, no. Neither can Char. That will change in the future.
