The star trader has rep with factions, so clearly the rest of space is at least SOMEWHAT aware of their history.
So shouldn't the pirates have a certain degree of survival instinct built in?
"Well, here we are in a scout cutter. We've just encountered a sword battle cruiser with twice our guns and twice our crew. What's more , this ship is known to the faction -- a legendary crime lord who made her name killing faction pirates, 147 at last count."
"let's loot her."
"Sure, why not? What could go wrong?"
I would suggest that small-fry pirates and bounty hunters would be more willing to peacefully depart even if the target is a faction enemy, if the odds of success are obviously low. Equally, this should mean more high-level pirates and bounty hunters should pursue the target in the hopes of big reward and bigger name. Fewer curbstomps, more challenge.
Respectfully,
Brian P.

Thanks, this challenge comparison system is on our list to work on. You can see the bones of it coming together in the "easy ship compare"
