It's been basically 20 years since we've seen games like Eye of the Beholder, Dungeon Hack, Dungeon Master, Bard's Tale, etc. The old dungeon crawl games of yore have fallen by the wayside and disappeared from view.
Now, thanks to a great team of Fins known as Almost Human Games, there is new game that will hopefully breath new life into the genre. Legend of Grimrock just released April 11th for PC via Steam, GOG.com, and I believe directly through the developer's website. It's currently in the $13-15 range, and they're working on releasing a mod kit for public release. According to what I have read, it's been a pretty massive success so far. And for a genre that I grew up with and loved, and have dearly missed, that is fantastic news.
I personally have sunk quite a bit of time into already, and I must say that it is a great game. I don't want to spoil it, and I really want to encourage everyone to check it out via YouTube(stay away from anything more than reviews if you can). I haven't been this passionate about a new release in a LONG time. I mean it.

I loved the Original Bard's Tale. Hilarious.

And although the console Bard's Tale's gameplay sucks, the quests are funny too. Killing rats in the cellar... HA!
And also Shadowrun. Now I could get my fix on both CK when I'm on the move and its spiritual ancestor REVIVED through Kickstarter. Wonderful!

I would so love to see SR done right as an MMORPG but that has been my wish since the Genesis Console Version. ...I heard about the Kickstarter project.

I like the idea. If I were to develop the game, I would include
- at least (the usual) 3 character classes selectable - fog of war - random maps - randomized loot - weapon components randomized (as an afterthought, weapons should have limited durability to keep the collector-mania going) - ...
Oh goosh, its so overwhelming I can't grasp its entirety :-D. I'm not trying to teach grandma to suck eggs. Don't name it Hero Quest though, I think are still name rights out there.
And now btt: Read the test about Legend of Grimrock today in a PC-Games magazine. Its amazing, feeling shivers of nostalgia rippling down my spine.

I appreciate your input but we're on different pages - include the base 10 character archtypes from World's Edge - fog of war - public map editor - world's edge style magic items - sophisticated trap and gear system I am very keen on implementing some of these design ideas from week's worth of discussions with Andrew. The concept is a multi-character rougelike where the player controls 2-4 characters who move, fight and use magic independently in a turn-based scenario. Like Hero Quest, but in the Secrets of Steel universe with World's Edge content and a single player instead of a group at a table top.

It is very much the concept of "Templars Fantasy" tho

I still can't tell if you're referring to the old Games-Workshop fantasy board game Hero Quest, or something else entirely.
Seeing the board game revived would be so damn beautiful.

@hate - we loved Heroes Quest. We in fact, still own a couple of copies of the game. However, we don't just port games. We create new games from inspirations from our past =) So... let's say, if you loved HQ, you will love HoS.

My copy of the game was destroyed by a certain sibbling many years ago. I have still have withdrawls of it all the time. Now I need to find a good place to purchase it, along with the expansions.
