Hi ALL!
I am against resurrect, too.
When I played in easy mode (no cap. death), the game became boring after a week (... I mean a week of real life, not a game week...). When you know that you can loose everything, than you make much more attention to the game, and it becomes very interesting. AND ... it is roleplay! I've played D&D for 20 years, and I have seen many PG dead. It is part of the game; without that, it would grow boring in a short while.
PS: I found (finally) the aliens (a BIG red ship) al level 6, difficulty hard: those bastards disabled my ship in 3 turns, killed all the crew, and then started wounding the captain (with plasma, of course) until he died... But then I started a new game!
People die, life goes on!
Bye!

Hey Babau, welcome to the forum ... thanks for your feedback on the topic - I think it helps reinforce that what the TB's are doing is on the money.

It's just not such an involving and exciting game if you're not constantly worried about your captain permanently expiring to feed an alien.

No res pls! If you want to add ressurect, might as well change the name of the game to mass effect 2, and automatically changed the Clan / Syn's name to Cerberus with the cpt's last name Shepard! . We can call the aliens The reapers, that's fine . my 2 cents, probably doesn't add much value to discussion... but hey!

I actually want something a little different. A way to share captains with my friends. I'd also like a way to share them with Cory, who well, isn't exactly a friend but rather the 'revered creator'. As in 'revered creator, have my savefile! See how Saviour medkits are absolutely not working for me!' ooops, wrong game.) ;D
I am assuming that this would require writing to your SD card (so, yes, make this a function of the Trese Brothers character editor kit. See this thread:http://startradersrpg.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=ckrpgtalk&thread=2255&page=2#25985 for where this came up in the context of CK -- I still like my idea of a new helper app, that you pay for.) So, make a rule, if you reload a captain's stats from the SD card, then yuour results and awards and whatsoever say 'BETA-level SIMULATION' (thank you Alastair Reynolds) or something alongf the lines. Then you, and everybody else who sees this captain knows that this captain may be the great cheat of all time, and not to take any of his stats seriously.
But for revisiting beloved captains, now sadly deceased -- well, I'd like to have his Beta level simulation for sure. And -- well, this goes more for CK, where I kick ass, as opposed to ST where House Cadar kicks my ass -- and I am only up to playing 'Hard' these days -- it would often be useful, on the forums, aside from handing characters to Cory saying 'see! broken!' but handing better developed characters to newbies who are having problems. Saying 'your problem is that you don't have enough athletics. Go try that mission with This Char who has athletics of 6 ...' and the like. Sometimes people do not believe me when I tell them that athletics are very important ....
What do other people think of this sort of compromise?

LOL - Cory the RC It's true in so many senses of the word <grin>. I wouldn't mind being able to pass back games to Cory so he can see the issues we are talking about all the time, but being able to share captains amongst other players could do two things 1) It provides a pseudo save game structure. You will be able to "share" a captain to a backup device, and if your captain dies, you can "share" the backup captain back again.
2) It negates some of the awards - people would be asking you for a sufficiently high captain so as to achieve a particular award. This means they don't have to do the challenge - but it also means they might miss some valuable experience/lessons that aiming for the award ends up teaching you.
As an aside, I still haven't spend much time in CK - it's one of those games I know I'll end up being sucked into so I'm hesitant to do so (wifey has only just forgiven me for ignoring her so long while playing ST). Mind you, if Cory's the RC, in CK, you're pretty much a minor Deity yourself ... outside of the TB's, you probably know the most in that game!

You will be able to "share" a captain to a backup device, and if your captain dies, you can "share" the backup captain back again. Well, my idea was, thank you Alastair Reynolds, was that you could only share a Beta-level captain. It looks and feels like the original, but is clearly marked as an AI simulation, and cannot vote your shares in Yellowstone (you need to have read Alastair Reynolds to get this reference). We could even make it so that it could not advance in levels, could not train -- there are lots of ways we could limit the captain. No new ship upgrades. Revisiting him would clearly be a matter of nostagia, and bug reporting. Ah, my idea was to not let them achieve any new awards when running the beta sim. But get the awards and ships to use that the beta sim had. IE -- This is an 'Honor of Thalun'. If you would stop blowing up every House Thulun vessel you meet, you might be able to fly such a thing, and it's tons more fun to fight in than <pick your poison>. (Sorry, it is my current coolest *newish* ship. You probably have better starter ideas.) Maybe 'I killed an alien in this rusty tub. Wanna see if you can match this feat with this exact same hulk?' Well, thank you. If I can ever help you get over the learning how to do it at all hump, just ask. Ok, back to my regularly scheduled slaughter of Syndicate Rychart.... Thanks for the kindnesses., Grävling
