what's this dark century that seems to be illusive to a newbie like myself. I only want that fast starting ship.

Langus,
Possible bad design on my part. Dark Century should probably be tied to something other than a starting ship.
The award requires the captain to survive to year "100.1E" which is 100 years after Event

I don't know if it's a bug or something else, but I think I only got Dark Century when I survived till 157.1E, 100 years after the game starts or something like that

So storywise, how does that work? What is the average human lifespan in this era? Is this a feature of being a Captain, as they are considered special? Handiwork of the Technologist Doctors? At 130 years old is my Captain young and virile or a creaky fossil?

A hush fell across the Bridge as he entered, helped into the tiered and dimly-lit chamber by his entourage of officers, assassins and loyalists. A powerful, polished bronze exoskeleton enclosed his yellow robed form allowing ruined limbs the illusion of independent motion.
The left side his face was pulled down in a permanent sneer; the flesh scarred and ruined. One eye was a green cybernetic orb and none in the chamber dared meet the unflinching gaze of the one that remained.
-------------
In Star's Edge life extending technology is not fun stuff -- and the work of a Doctor Technologist is often as much a burden as a cure.
Star Traders RPG seems to take a more pulp approach where Wounds are recovered without any attribute loss (although that sounds like fun!)

What if Doctors worked better if you traded Artifacts to the planet beforehand?
Also, how about Medicine as a cargo item?

I like the idea of spice somehow preserving the body as well. Like it does with .... erm.... Curries.... Actually some of my more heavily spiced curries seem to improve with age. Also, lots of chillie sauce definitely extends the lifespan of a doner kebab by a few days. So intravenously administered or nasally, or whatever the anatomy is fitted with, spice HAS to be life extending. It stands to reason.

The only problem with using spice for life extension is after a few centuries, you may be so spicy you might find your crew snorting your hair or nail clippings. ;D
