When in the regular map screen I can only see the left set of buttons. The right set(which are important helpful and convenient) are only visible when I rotate the screen to landscape. I tried locking it in portrait, no help. This is super annoying, please patch it.

Adding user-configurable HUD buttons is on the roadmap for both Android and iPhone, however, on the Android version at this time the portrait and landscape buttons are different.
This is true of the GS3 and all other devices, so it isn't an issue with just your phone.
I am truly sorry that it has annoyed you and I would be happy to offer a refund if you have the Elite version and feel that this has ruined your experience with the game.
My e-mail is cory.trese@gmail.com and for a refund, just send me your Google Play Order Number.
The reason for the way the buttons are currently working is device compatibility. Star Traders RPG currently supports over 3,000 different Android devices which requires certain compromises. The GS3's screen is very high resolution and presents more screen real estate than other devices in it's class (per the Google HDPI, XHDPI, Large, XLarge classification.)
We're definitely working on a solution but it isn't a simple patch, it requires a complete re-write of the HUD system which will take at least a week of work and I cannot commit to an ETA.
let me know what you'd like to do.
-Cory

I wouldn't dream of asking for a refund. I just wanted to make due you wereaware of the issue and offer any details/support, if they were needed. Thanks for writing a good game, and then properly continuing to support/improve it. Your time and effort is appreciated!

We will get to fixing this issue with the HUD, it's just tricky to keep all the devices compatible without writing a unique set of UI code for each resolution (which would quickly make it impossible for us to release regular updates.)

Would it be possible to add a check box in options, which opens a different ui for stacking the buttons in portrait. Instead of doing a full rewrite perhaps? would still have to create the portrait view, but it seems like it might be less of a headache.

I can take a look, but I don't think that will solve the issue with portability across devices. A suggestion worth investigating, I'll post back if I find anything we can do that doesn't break random people's phones.
