Here's what happened: On my second boarding turn vs. Aliens, my engines were reduced to zero and it said on the bottom of the screen "The captain has been hounded. Health:9... and KILLED!" I then got the game over screen. This was v4.8 and I had the new bodyguard on-board.
What happened? How could I be killed if my health was only reduced to nine?

Thanks for the report. A logcat would help. We will take a look.

I can't exactly control when it happens. If it does happen again, I won't know when. All I can do is provide info about when it happened (officers on-board, enemy type, enemy lv, captain lv, turn of boarding, etc)

This report is kinda strange, but I'll log it anyway. Thanks for the post. You have the strangest bugs that no one else ever reports

Well most people don't report every bug that happens to them, or even realizes a bug when they see one. And they normally end up being reported by someone else later Just as a hunch, maybe you shoud look into the new bodyguard officer and see if there's a problem there. This happened right after I updated v.4.8 and had my BH transformed into a bodyguard. It could be something else, but considerring I've boarded countless times before and this is the first time that this happened, I'm guessing its either a bodyguard problem or some other problem with update v.4.8

I do remember one case where you reported a bug and then someone else reported it -- so it has happened, I don't argue that point. However, we have to be honest about the reality of the situation -- the forum only represents a small fraction of the feedback we get about ST.
Because a post on the forum is about 10 taps from the market home page and e-mailing me is 1 tap we get the VAST majority of our bug reports via e-mail.
I'm yet to record a serious defect in ST that didn't generate e-mails. Most members of the forum are more helpful than those that e-mail, but with 700+ new players a day we get a lot of first timer feedback -- and those people are surprisingly effective at noticing bugs.
The last time the combat code was substantially changed was Saturday March 17, 2012 at 9:42AM, so if there is a defect with the rules it has existed for around 8 months.
The change in v4.8 for Bodyguard was 2 things:
1.) I change the name in a non-rules XML file, replacing the word "Bounty Hunter" with "Bodyguard." 2.) I moved the Contract bonus from CAPTURE to PASSENGERS, which is located in the ship dock.
I will search again, through all of the changed code for any other differences or anything that could have impacted the Combat rules in the past 2-3 months but based on our code management system's reports, I will be very surprised if I find anything.
I'd be willing to bet it was Hull 0 or defeat for another reason, but I'm going to spend some time searching for this reported issue even if that was the case -- and keep an eye out for e-mails about similar situations.

Well my engines were reduced to zero. But it said I was killed. Unless... It said "The captain has been wounded. Health: 9... and KILLED!" Is it possible that the "and killed" part if refering to the enemy captain, even though its being stated right after the statement that I've been wounded? If that's the case, prehaps you could change it so it says "and killed" after saying the enemy captain was wounded if the enemy captain was killed and vice-versa if its the player captain.

I don't know though. I thought if it was the enemy that was killed, it would say "and killed" after saying the enemy was wounded, not after saying the captain was wounded. Am I wrong?
Also, you state the bodyguard changes only incuded a name change and a contract bonus change. But it says on the help that the bodyguard resists captain damage, increases intimidate and increases enemy captain damage. He did none of those things before. Also, the pervious bonuses he had, a surrender bonus vs. Search/loot for rep loss and other negative efects as well as a sustained boarding bonus is o longer said in the help, which gives me the impression that those bonuses were taken out.

+1 for just running logcat continuously, as it seems you deal with a *lot* of bugs. Take that suggestion whatever way you choose, but it's just that, a suggestion.
