Ya know, there are lots of times that I have gone to move my templar, or to attack, only to find that the game things I am trying to look around (swiping) so moves the map instead. It's a little frustrating even though I'm fully aware that it isn't a real-time game, so these delays aren't causing my squad to be chewed to death. So my thinking was one of two things
1) Having a movement dpad that allows you to control your knights without fear that the screen will be moved. This will also help reduce the "fat finger accidental move" thing. You can target a Xeno by touching it, but then you press the dedicated "fire" button to shoot. Again, saves having the screen suddenly move while you are trying to shoot at something.
2) Having a "Look" toggle button. You press that button, then you have "free-look" capabilities. You press it again, and it centers on the active knight. when it is locked on a knight, you are able to do all movements by pressing left/right/up/down on the screen as per normal, but without fear of the screen moving. You still have the problem of the fat-finger accidental move though.

I like the idea for #1. A dpad in the lower corner of the screen, tap either forward/back or left/right. Have a "fire mode" that just brings up crosshairs over all enemies in range. #2 is something I could find being useful as well.
Good idea!

Any DPAD would need to include the turning capabilities, which makes it more complicated and error prone (to fingers), agreed?

if you made the dpad really small, yes, fat fingers will certainly cause a problem. However, if you made it larger, or alternatively, placed a button on the edges of the screen in the top-middle, left/right middle, and bottom-middle, then there is no chance that fat fingers could cause errors. Of course, if you re using your feet to control your phone, I can't guarantee errors in movement ...

Sorry - was not thinking smart. You need FWD - Turn Right - Retreat - Turn Left. Somehow I got a 6 key DPAD in my head.

Almost as good as a movement undo button, assuming random screen touches never also move.
