I was killing Xeno's as you do on a typical Saturday afternoon and thought to myself ... wouldn't it be cool to be rewarded for a particular playing style. Say you favored melee and preferred smashing Xeno's around with your fists or blades. OR, maybe you really enjoy picking great choke-holds and taking out Xeno's with ranged weapons as they come streaming in. Maybe you liked to play "Ninja" in your 1 ton battle armor, and strive to avoid getting within 1square of any ugly Xeno. Shouldn't that count for something?
So here is what I came up with. Bonus Skill points based on your play in the mission:
Kill 10 or more enemies (Xeno/Narv/FDF) with ranged weapons, get 1 bonus Ranged point*.
Kill 10 or more enemies (Xeno/Narv/FDF) with melee weapons, get 1 bonus Warrior point*.
Surviving 10+ attacks in a mission, get 1 bonus Evasion point.
*I think that it would only be fair to get 1 bonus Ranged or Warrior point per mission, so you can't kill 10 Xeno's with ranged weapons, THEN kill 10 Xeno's with melee weapons and get 2 bonus skill points. Instead, it should be whichever bonus you got first (in the example, you should get +1 RANGED point).
These bonus points will give you:
* Incentive to hang around and do some kills instead of just rushing to the finish line
* Incentive to play to your particular playing style - have melee specialists or ranged specialists, etc
* The ability to build up a squad faster by effectively getting up to 3 XP per mission (with two pre-allocated to particular skills)
Now the magic number "10" is arbitrary ... so it could be 10 is the right number for up to Normal difficulty, then it gets 11+ at Hard, 13+ at Crazy, 15+ at Brutal
