Im not sure if I would call it a 'bug' per se, but in the maze I noticed that sometimes no other spiders or ratkin (magnificently designed by the way) come at my team. I want combat to end so I start looking around for a straggler- then I trigger a new group of bad guys. I kill them all but combat STILL doesnt end. I spent a good three hours last night crawling through the caves last night with AP and still cant find that straggler.

dayan - sorry that you're stuck there. You likely left a monster behind. Try to finish combats so that you get back to combat mode, and don't leave the major area until you've cleaned up. We are working on this stuff to make it better! Thanks.

Hi there,
I have a related issue in the ratkin maze area. I cannot end combat at any time, and now that I reached the end of the area with a resting place, it gives me a message that area is not safe, presumably because I cannot end combat mode?
Is there any way to fix this? I mean, going back through the entire (big) area is bound to take a lot of time given that I have to move each character manually.
Thanks for a great game so far, though!

Even if running a pathfinding algorithm takes too long for each foe; a simple x,y distance function shouldn't take much processing power. They may not have a clear path to you in under 15 (or whatever) moves... but they might still hear you across the water or through the walls so stay in combat mode until a certain distance away... when closer you hear the foe and they hear you.
That would help us when we can't find where the last rat is hiding...
... or another idea that XCom:Enemy unknown implemented... if the enemy hasn't been detected in a while it gives you a hint (your closest team member hears which direction the foe is) so you at least know if you have to go east or west to fight it.
Perhaps if you go three turns without an enemy spotted one of your team might say "I think I hear something to the east."
