I discovered this on a first generation Kindle Fire.
When I close HoS by using the Kindle's Home button, HoS no longer appears in the "Running Apps" list, but if I check the HoS app in the "Third Party Apps" list, the 'Force Close' button is lit up an functional, as if HoS was still open.
When I close Hos using the HoS Quit button, this does not happen. I checked a smattering of other apps, and their "Force Close" buttons were not lit up.
This observation may have no practical significance, but since I stumbled across it and then obsessively tested it for repeatability, why not document it?
P.S. This was observed with HoS 1.1.11 and 1.1.13.

That is a very interesting point. With the Kindle Fire HD Second gen I see the same thing. When I play/quit Star Traders, I can see it in running applications in what looks like a passive state.
One time I left my Kindle plugged in with a Charge of 90%, went out for the evening and when I got back, it was down to 22%.
Quite by accident, I turned up the volume and could hear the "Windy Cavern" Soundtrack you get when in free move. But HOS Icon was on desktop having quit before leaving home. So I'm keeping a eye on it. Has never occurred on my wife's Kindle HD

Maybe using the quit button in StarTraders/HoS is the solution. Do you see StarTraders if use the StarTraders quit button OR if you use the Kindle home button?

It looks odd, but it is all the same in the end -- the OS makes the choice about what runs and what doesn't.
In all of our games, the Quit buttons do nothing -- in Android. Totally up to the OS there.
Sometimes Quit buttons make people happy, so we add them -- even though the OS source code proves they're not doing anything.
The application may or may not keep running -- the developer has no control.

Cory Trese Thanks for the explanation. Makes allot of sense. Has not reoccurred at this time.
