My understanding is that dexterity has more functionality than strength, but strength based weapons generally have higher damage for their intended level (or price).

morten - Sorry to hear you are having trouble with the Sorcerer. I've managed to build him up quite well, and am pretty much in love with him at the moment. Looking at his stats, they are as follows; Vincent the SorcerAttributesDexterity - 5 Constitution - 5 Strength - 4 Willpower - 3 Intelligence - 7 Knowledge - 6 SkillsBlades - 5 Polearms - 1 Sorcery - 4 Conjuring - 3 Lore - 4 I've mostly focused on building up Storm Strike and Charged Speed on him, haven't actually put any points into Flash Freeze. I use him as my hit and run skirmisher, popping Charged Speed on him allows me 3 free moves, which is usually enough to get him into melee range, attack 3 times, and move him back out of danger. I've currently got a Short Sword on him, which actually goes against Cory's advice since it's a Strength based weapon. I've found that he misses a little more than I want, but when he hits he regularly does 20 damage a hit without the Charge. Charge shot usually bumps him into the 30 range. I've found him to be very effective at wiping out the light combatants, spiders, archers and the like. My Thief is equipped and kitted for pure ranged damage. Her stats are as follows; Tamilin the ThiefAttributesDexterity - 8 Constitution - 5 Strength - 5 Willpower - 4 Intelligence - 5 Knowledge - 4 SkillsBlades - 1 Bows - 5 Lore - 2 Security - 3 (4) Stealth - 6 (10) Her talents are mostly focused into Aimed shot and Disarming touch, with a side order of Deadly Intuition. If I take pot shots with Aimed shot then she'll easily deal 20-30 damage a hit, and loose will usually do high teens-low 20s on a hit. She is most effective at taking out the lighter armored enemies at range, but aimed shot allows her to hurt heavier troops that are closing on my Outlander. I hope my builds can help you out a bit. I'm still relatively early in Episode 1 though so I'm only level 6 or 7 at the moment. As I build my characters more I'll be sure to post more information. The main thing seems to be that there is a lot of variation in the builds, try to build something that you think works and synergizes with your play style. I tend to go all out with melee so I don't really use Vincent's ranged spells all that often, he's basically a spell SWORD for me, only really busting out a Frigid Air once in a while when I feel like a particularly scary bad guy is getting too close.

contributor - one uses Dexterity and one uses Strength for the accuracy attribute. There are a lot of other factors included in that roll, but if you are building a Dexterous character (per morten), then consider a Light Blade.

I will report back when I update equipment. I think that is the only thing holding their potential back. Thanks to everyone for the advice :-)
Edit: With the upgraded gear things are looking a lot better for the thief and sorcerer. Storm Strike is still a bit low sometimes, could it be due to it being a different damage type? It seemed really low against cave spiders.. Also, why is Storm Strike more expensive in spirit than aimed shot, when their bonuses are identical?

very good thread.. Yes you always want to check to see if there is newer / better armor & weapons when your in a town. You seem to be able to get enough gold to buy what you need, when it's available. which is very nice I think. I tend to pair up my Outlander & Thief and Wizard & Cleric.

<snip> I hope my builds can help you out a bit. I'm still relatively early in Episode 1 though so I'm only level 6 or 7 at the moment. Which means I'm looking at a rebuild...again. My current Vince party (NM) is 10th level and has spent a *LOT* of time walking back and forth visiting campfires to rest, pretty much after every fight past Oskahold and some in the Deeps. Or sucking down potions like water on a hot day in the desert, which is okay in an emergency. I also had to be real careful how I approached some of the potential mass encounters to ensure I don't trigger the extra mobs. Light Blades stink at higher levels, a problem that I think is fixable, but might not fit the balance, but that will be going into a wish list post. Though IIRC, high Dodge for Vince was supposedly part of the balance plan... Meanwhile my Karj party has hit 6th, only needs to camp every 2d or 3d encounter, has no problem aggressively wading into mass encounters, Kyera & Tami kill extras after Karj debuffs them and Vraes is a one man army against debuffed mobs. Yeah, I need to do the north gate stuff and then into the warrens, but I don't see a big deal. What is happening was what I thought would after my initial failed attempt with Vince, the power of buffing and debuffing that Karj brings outweighs the damage Vince can bring over what Karj lets Vraes, Tami and, yes, even Kyera dish out. Now, if I had a way to put Karj & Vince in the same party...

johndrameyRight on John, another great post. Exalt! +1 I was particularly glad to see your numbers on Sorcery and Conjuring. I'm going the Lightning Spear, Thunderous Blades. Dexterity and small blades route with Vincent. Not quite sure how far to take Dex and Sorcery.
