I've had a couple of experiences with ratkin where they just stand still and let me kill them.
Most recently big battle in NE of Lair. 2 ledges... the bottom one fought me... top ledge couldn't reach me.
4 ratkin and 2 giant rats just stood perfectly still on a ledge as I massacred them with my thief's bow... pretty slow going but killed them all without a single sp lost or taking a hit (after killing numerous ratkin on lower ledge first... and the shaman on upper ledge).
Should the ratkin not attempt to flee if they can't reach you but are being hit? I know if I were being hit from range and couldn't fire back I would retreat rather than waiting to die.

bobsoup - please post your version number. AI is always a work in progress, and there are lots of situations that are simply better to avoid in other ways than try to code in strange scenarios like "flee if you can't reach the character."

1.1.15 Attached screenshot is where it happened...other than the shaman on that ledge they all just waited there whilst I slowly killed them with arrows. They neither fled nor came after me. I can explain Not coming after me... a narrow passage unrevealed at the time was blocked by a ratkin so they couldn't reach me. Nonetheless, I was able to kill them without them trying to evade me... just stood there and took the arrows. This ledge is located +spoiler+ north west of stair to THE shaman. Attachments:

AI is fun. It will continue to evolve and get smarter, more variant in future releases.

Yeah, you won't see a good improvement until like 1.1.19
In this case these Ratkin's AI is saying "the walk to the player is too long to be a valid path" but this map the path to walk and the distance to shoot are too divergent for the 1.1.13 AI to figure out.

Do Ratkin Bowmen and Shaman have the capability to attack at more than Range 6? In 1.1.15 I've had couple of instances where it felt they were able to hit me and I couldn't hit them (esp the Shamen). It could just have been because of my positioning - in fact it's most-likely that this is the case, but I thought I'd raise it all the same.
I'm currently playing 1.1.17 so will see if it happens again

slayernz - the shamans can out range you, the archers have the same range as your long rangers (Thief, Wizard).
