Answer me this question if you care to:
"If I could change or add one thing in Star Traders RPG, what would it be?"

You're not going to like it Cory, but you did ask.
"Better documentation"
I enjoy trolling the forums for hints of how gameplay works, and the impact of various rumors or actions on the underlying economic engine. But I suspect most of the more casual players would appreciate that info being put together in a better format.
I say "you won't like it" because it's clear that Elizabeth (and others) are working hard on that at this very moment in time with their player's guide project, and that you prodding them over it probably won't help and would be kind of jerkish.
That said, when she gets done with the guide, it'll be a godsend for a lot of people. (and for me it'll be a fascinating dive into how wrong I was on certain details, which will no doubt improve my play as well) So kudos to her and the folks helping out.
-abs
{edit} I should probably add that trolling the generic rumors for info has proven quite useful to me in improving my play-style as well, so I like that aspect of the game. But the "game" of "learning the game" probably isn't universally appealing. {/edit}

I registered today solely with the intent of posting my "1 wish" for ST and saw you had a thread open asking for this. Being a developer myself this is most excellent to see you so engaging your clients.
What I really feel should be enhance is the UI when you encounter a ship. It's a giant pain in the ass to figure out if I surrender am I going to jail, going to lose my cargo, or lose my contracts? Having to cycle through a bunch locations to answer these questions is unhelpful.
I would envision that below the buttons you would have like a Consequences pane
Acknowledge: Combat is unlikely and reputation loss is unlikely Battlestations: Combat will ensue Reputation with X will decrease from our actions Reputation with Y will increase from our actions (Trade War)
Target is our required to be EXECUTED, APPREHENDED for Contract X
Ignore: Combat may ensue, Reputation with X will decrease from our actions Target is our required to be EXECUTED, APPREHENDED for Contract X this will forfeit the contract
Surrender: Combat will not ensue Electronics x5, Artifacts x6 will likely be seized We are a criminal and will likely be jailed
---
My second feature request which is far simpler would be a Collect All Rumors button, either in the palace & spice hall or perhaps directly on the planet. It's some what of a pain in the ass to click through 50 rumors manually when I'm not even going to read them until I look at the status screen.

Dry Dock Ships button in Captiain status, showing a list of ships in dry dock with buttons to set way points. Buttons to show the ship status would be very cool too.

Well then you probably want an additional button on top of "Dry Dock Ships" ... "Caches" Clicking on that button provides a list of all the planets + AU distances. Two buttons per cache "Details" and "Plot". Click on "Details" and you can check out the contents of the cache (quantities, etc). Click on "Plot", and of course you can set a course to get the stuff.
This isn't my "one thing" wish (just for the record) ... it's just an extension of Slawyer's wish <grin> ...

An expanded thought on this would be to also have an actual like free form captains journal that lets you write a note and store a coordinate for later that you can click plot on. This could potentially bypass the need of slayernz suggestion, of course you could directly use this as the medium to achieve his suggestion that when you cache etc it just generates a log note with the items and location. One final thought on this it would probably make sense to offer categorization based off the coordinate being urban, wilderness like you do for rumors. Some other things I've noticed when playing. I find it very very hard to navigate by the star map. I think sprinkling around house flags in the map would make it alot more usable, especially with putting flags on planets. This same note applies to the general galaxy map, I find it very hard to keep track of who's space I'm in and what planet am I going to? For a smaller tweak that I feel would help alot is in star ports on the ship upgrade screen to have a checkbox or button to show unavailable upgrades. I don't think it's very helpful seeing all of the upgrades and trying to find the 3 that the shop sells. 95% of the time I want to see just what they have because I'm looking for something specific.

... Surrender: Combat will not ensue Electronics x5, Artifacts x6 will likely be seized We are a criminal and will likely be jailed ... Just last night I half ruined a character because I surrendered and had half my net worth seized in artifacts because I wasn't thinking about carrying artifacts. Also, smugglers don't seem to be very good at smuggling. If you're a smuggler (or even if you're not) I don't think it makes sense that every officer is able to find every single contraband item every single time. It would be interesting if the game treated items as hidden and used a probability / luck roll on figuring out what items the officer can find and to have this influenced by tatics or wisdom or something.

The one thing I would wish for is greater ship customization capability. A larger variety and number of upgrades would be a start, but maybe have minimal other things you can do? Like, drop some engines to make room for more cargo space?
You could even do this with the current upgrade system, just add in a general modification category that has 3 upgrade slots instead of just 1. Then, all the upgrades for these slots are give in takes, like +10 cargo space AND -5 engines, or something similar.
There you go!

Smugglers are excellent at smuggling if you do your homework. You Rank with everybody. You watch embargoes like a hawk. You cross your eyes and dot your tees (then you draw a line between the two dots and get an excellent cross on your tee.) Don't take sides, take precautions. (The movie Layer Cake seems to be a pretty good handbook.)
I'd like Officer Reports about things like ship system quality (we bought crappy armor plates on Javat Prime, fix them?), impending political situations (this embargo looks like it's going to blow over/become a full blown trade war), military tactics, and projected exploration/harvest results.
Also, I'd like to be able to port it to my smarthat.

I have it. The one thing I would add to ST above all others. I understand not putting labels on the map to name the planets, besides if you long press on one the window pops up with some details about them. but how about having a third button "notes" allowing the player to make a short perhaps 10 -25 character note about said planets.
it is one thing to be a captain and memorizing the map, but if i were a starship captain i would be making notes about the places I visit...
"Great harvests, be wary of three breasted whores."

Oh, also, now I'm all fired up about my flagged contracts idea that I blathered on about in the Har Har Templars thread.

Smugglers are excellent at smuggling if you do your homework. You Rank with everybody.... I think you missed where I was going with this. I was alluding to real life smuggling in the sense that smugglers routinely create elaborate hiding spots in their vehicles so that they can hope to "beat" a search. If you're a smuggler and you get stopped for a search and lose your entire cargo you're a very bad smuggler!

Real life? I think you missed who you're talking to!
I think the idea in the game is that if they find one thing, they don't stop looking until you're totally looted.
