One of the aspects I have always enjoyed in any Final Fantasy game, or otherwise, is the addition of secret passages. I want this. I don't know if it's simple to add. I'm thinking things like: 1. Cow level. 2. An un-solid wall that leads to a secret cave with goodies/enemies/merchant. 3. A tunnel which uses the natural curve of a tunnel wall to hide an entrance that goes into 'the black' area of the map, with goodies/enemies/merchant/etc. 4. Cow level. 5. In a multiple level dungeon, have exits that go up/down into segregated map areas of another level. Thus, only way to get to a particular spot in a map level is to take the correct up/down stairway. Heck, maybe the stairway is hidden in some way too? 6. An item that allows access over an otherwise impassible spot that ISN'T directly linked to a quest. Like a non-mentioned quest. Explanation: A. Have some random mention of some ancient history involving a particular spot on the map. B. At some point, maybe a random chest, have an item drop that doesn't seem to do anything. C. If players go to X or Y person (maybe a hint on the item itself but STILL not a quest) some of the history of the item is revealed. D. Add 'history'/'clues' to your developer heart's desire as steps. E. Find the spot. Use the item. Pass into the area. F. .............. G. Profit! 7. Cow level.

2. An un-solid wall that leads to a secret cave with goodies/enemies/merchant. Check. 5. In a multiple level dungeon, have exits that go up/down into segregated map areas of another level. Thus, only way to get to a particular spot in a map level is to take the correct up/down stairway. Heck, maybe the stairway is hidden in some way too? Check, just no in E1A1. 6. An item that allows access over an otherwise impassible spot. Check. 7. Cow level. These come at the end of the game, usually, and not in the first rounds.

I came across this really old thread, and was wondering about 6. An item that allows access over an otherwise impassible spot.
For which Cory said "check". That's been playing around in my mind, I've seen quite a lot of HoS but no such thing. Still to come in Ep4? Or are these the Warder charms? The switches in the Underforge?

*whaps forehead* I still have a bug to reproduce before submitting it: if you get the Braeys ember log but then go to the Koda side of the pass to melt the snow, the game crashes.

2. An un-solid wall that leads to a secret cave with goodies/enemies/merchant. Check. Did you mean the walls with the cracks in them? Or do you mean that there is just a wall which looks impassable but you can walk through!? I've never been across that!

There are doors that look like walls with cracks in them. There are some threads on here dedicated to finding secret doors.
