I remember reading somewhere that officers have an innate power that is determined by your level and other factors when you first hire them. This meant that you needed to keep rehiring officers as you gained experience so they keep up with you...
Is this correct, it seems a bit daft to fire my first mate after he has many years experience with me to get a new one fresh out of University who has a bigger piece of paper ...
I tried searching for this but could not find the right words. First officers all look the same to me anyhow!

First Mates are vat clones. Those mustaches are genetically engineered.

If you have ever dismissed your venerable first mate, you can always get him to rejoin your crew by flying back to your very first planet (you know, the one that started you off in this exciting trek around the galaxy.
If you go into the Palace, you'll be able to re-recruit the First Mate again. This way you can always find that comforting prosthetic upper lip if and when you need it.

So ...
Is anyone seeing benefit from sacking officers and rehiring new ones as you go up levels. Working on the theory that the power of officers is fixed by your level when you buy them? It is costing quite a lot to do this.
Or does the original officer go up in levels with you?

I think I read the same post. Someone thought new officers would have better stats and was doing exchanging them when they could. There was a lot of discussion, but no real answer to the question. Currently, I just keep mine. Buying officers is expensive but it might be worth it if they gave you better stats. it may be worth it for better stats. Maybe someone that know will post an answer to that question. Officer level doesn't vary in ST at this time.
There is no purpose to firing and hiring the same officer.

so then the officer power's dependency on the planet you hired him at and your lv when you got him was changed?

@starfixer - nope. The power of an officer is static.

@starfixer - nope. The power of an officer is static. For clarity does this mean that regardless of where or when you get an officer, that officer will grant the exact same benefits? In otherwords function essentially the same as ship upgrades do where an upgrade provides a set bonus to the base ship regardless of what port you get it from?

Two year old thread reference. I think that code was removed to fix some bugs but it was more than a year ago, and more than a year after that post you liked. The forum never forgets
