So I restarted after I learned about pre-buffing, and must say I love this new party much more and they are tearing it up better than before, with more staying power in between sleeps. I am only on normal so this may not work for everyone but I've found it to be very useful.
I am basically only using buffs and debuffs on my talents, with very few spent elsewhere.
My Vraes has a 3 stone skin and a 2 natural mastery. Every skill point has gone into Lore and every Attribute except one into Strength. The other went into Int because I was running low on SP a little bit. He can full buff four times between sleeping, which usually gets us through 6ish or so combats, sometimes more if they are small skirmishes. I plan on throwing points into Swords too, but I really like extending his buff times, and natural mastery seems to be filling in nicely for now. I'm almost wishing I had gone the leadership route and Phalanx Shield/Berserk Rage because critical damage is so useful as I've now been seeing with Tamilin, but I'm not switching it up at this point.
For Karjtan he went pure Buff/debuff. Every attribute is in Int and every skill point into conjuring for maximum benefits on those. He has a burning blades of 5, pure flame shield of 1, and the starting choking ash of 1. To be honest I wasn't using choking ash much, but he kept getting back to camp with half or more of his SP left when I went back to rest, so started using it much more. My damage output really seems to go up a ton just off of the first rank so I think this talent is a keeper and I'm planning to put more into it. Burning Blades is of course great too and probably does more damage than his attack spells overall, though obviously not as quickly. Still, I always burnt through SP with him before, now he's useful every battle and isn't the first one drained of resources on long hauls.
Kyera is less specialized. She has every point int Int, her skills are split between Conjuration and Lore equally. She has Myshana's Tears at 3, Warders Shield 1, Piety Ward at 1, and Ethereal Anguish at 1. She basically buffs the party and keeps them healed. She's near worthless in combat on her own, but if Karjtan hits the enemy with Choking Ash first she almost rivals Vraes on damage output, so she always finds a spot on the battlefield. She tends to be my one person who may run out of SP slightly before the rest of the party, and I may drink a potion or two with her before sleeping.
Tamilin has been awesome for me. She has all attributes into Dex, all skills into Bow, Aimed shot at 2 and Deadly Intuition at 4. I rarely use Aimed Shot, but will bust it out in rare instances. She pretty much hits more than any other character, and her damage is higher than Kyeras but lower than Vraes, but since she hits so much more I suspect she delivers the most damage. She also crits quite often between burning blades and deadly intuition, and gets to full attack nearly every turn, putting her as my MVP at the moment.
All in all, learning of pre-buffing and switching my build really changed a lot for me. In my last party, Tamilin's damage was usually piddly and Kartjan was often useless and stood around. Well, he still does quite a bit, but what he does do now is much more useful than before. It was amazing how learning that one key thing really changed my party composition and how useful my PC's are. Its nice now that every character is pretty useful and I'm not saying "Why the heck is this guy even here" anymore!
