I am playing through with Kjartan & Selen and planned on building Choking Ash. Instead I went with Immolation 4 & Pureflame shield 4. I now need to build a stripping talent and will have access to Meteoric Shockwave. Choking ash seems the conservative route- lower SP making hopefully shorter battles & therefore using less SP by lowering defense & armor. Meteoric Shockwave must be better since it has higher SP. Battles will still take as long but enies will do less damage. I dont fully understand what adds dice to the attack/defense pools to confidently work out calculations, so I'm asking the experts/ experienced players- What do you prefer if you only take one of Kjartan's stripping spells?

I went with Choking Ash, I prefer debuffs that allow me to kill faster as opposed to slowing incoming damage. The one exception I make is for -AP because it's predictable and cost effective.
I would also say that this works for me because it plays into my overall play style of using the max range of monsters as much as possible to avoid as many attacks as possible without gimping my offense.

Probably Choking. I find it has more general use due to cheaper cost and getting it sooner. I tend to only use Meteoric for bosses, and I do love it to pieces.. But if there could only be one...

I'm saving my Kjartan/Selen combo party to go with the Paladin. That one is tricky. I'd go with Choking for the simple reason that what is not standing, is not doing damage to me. Selen will probably be built with a couple of levels in Pinning before swapping back into melee stuff, it makes things easier to hit, but doesn't give the same armor debuff, but that will help the two tanks dealing damage.

Well I stayed with Choking Ash and am still doing well early into EP2, I think. When does EP2 start? After Red Hill?

Gr8Scott - yes, it begins when you leave Red Hill after defeating the Baron.
