So fighting one group of Krete, I triggered another. What would you do?

The Krete river edge is packed with nasty opportunities like that. Glad someone is tripping the land mines

That's Vraes with heavy armor.
He says "They've got archers! Rush them!"
...but he's kind a busy right now.

Ah, different armor. i still use AoE anguish on the big new group to slow them down then pull kyera back, use Selen's 2 free MP from dance of shadows to move her back and then use pinning shot on the remainders of the first group. let vraes take out the stranglers of that group

So fighting one group of Krete, I triggered another. What would you do? I'd run around screaming for a minute. And then I'd move them up to the coast above Vraes with that rock/pebble in the water, where I can place Vincent to lightning bomb everything that comes Vraes. In other words, I'd force them to line up in rows of two or three to slap Vraes, then magic their scales off.

I'd run around with Officer Genious with my paws waving in the air! Then I'd retreat to the right side of the screen (but not too far) ... Vraes needs to be the soak point while your team do their magic, but you certainly don't want to have enemies on two sides at once - that'll just hurt lots. "I order you hold fire. I want you to Lay down suppressing fire with the incinerators and fall back by squads to the APC"
"Say again? All after incinerators? But I've got Vincent not Karjtan!"

This is definitely a "hold ranks" position. Pull the ladies back to Vraes and finish off the current battle while letting the new group come come to you. You can either -AP the archers w/Vince & Kyera or withdrawl from their range to draw them. Vraes needs to be super-soaker(wet armor contest anyone?) while everyone else does what you built them to do. Often buffs run out in extended battles when you trigger other groups, so the hold position also allows you easily rebuff if needed(warders shield, thundering blades, etc)
Selen yells, "Fall back! Lest these Kretens get us in a pincer."

Speaking of buffs running out, this is a good time to consider using an Incantation of Sustainment if you have one handy. You know it's going to be a long fight.

You move one step forward into a new square in any of these encounters? I learned not to do that at the end of the Ratkin Shaman quest. Much easier to avoid extra surprises + less chance for stuck NPCs to eat up your buff time. I remember one Krete group that I had to keep running Selen up to plink a shot at the archers and then run back out of range. Took a bit, but worth doing, especially when the second group triggered and I had to plink a bit longer. The problem solved itself when she finally cleared enough archers out to let her sit within 6 range of a melee Krete, then the entire group surged forward normally.
